This example illustrates the various pasting options in Excel. Cell V5 the figure below contains the function SUM (SUM), which calculates the sum of the values in a range B2: B4. In addition, we changed the background color of this cell to yellow.
Insert
Option paste (Insert) pastes everything.
- Highlight a cell V5, right-click on it, and then select the command Copy (Copy) or press Ctrl + C.
- Then select the cell F5, right-click on it and choose command paste (Insert) in section Paste Options (Paste Options) or click Ctrl + V.
Result:
The values
Option Values (Values) inserts the result of the formula (value only).
- Select cell V5, right-click on it, and then click Copy (Copy) or keyboard shortcut Ctrl + C.
- Then select a cell D5, right click on it and press command Values (Values) in the section Paste Options (Insert options).

Note: To quickly replace a formula in a cell B5 on the result, select a cell B5, press the key F2 (to edit the formula) and then F9.
formula
Option Formulas (Formulas) inserts only the formula.
- Select cell V5, right-click on it, and then click Copy (Copy) or keyboard shortcut Ctrl + C.
- Then select a cell F5, right click on it and press command Formulas (Formulas) section Paste Options (Insert options).

Formatting
Option Formatting (Formatting) pastes formatting only.
- Select cell V5, right-click on it, and then click command Copy (Copy) or keyboard shortcut Ctrl + C.
- Then select the cell D5, right-click on it, and then select the command Formatting (Formatting) in the section Paste Options (Insert options).

Note: Copy and paste formatting is much more convenient with the command Format Painter (Format according to the sample).
Paste special
Dialog window paste Special (Paste Special) offers even more pasting options. To launch the dialog box, do the following:
- Select cell V5, right-click on it, and then click Copy (Copy) or keyboard shortcut Ctrl + C.
- Then select the cell D5, right-click on it and select paste Special (Special insert).
The dialog box of the same name will appear:
Note: Here you can find the paste options described above. In addition, you can insert only cell notes, only formulas and number formats, only values and number formats, column widths, everything except the border, etc. You can also use the dialog paste Special (Paste Special) to perform quick operations to skip blank cells and to transpose data.
