Partner births in 2022
At joint births, other people may be present in addition to doctors. We have collected all the necessary information for those who are thinking about partner childbirth

Prior to the entry into force of the law “On the Fundamentals of Protecting the Health of Citizens in the Federation” in 2011, partner births were a rather rare occurrence in our country. Now more and more often next to the woman in labor is a husband or other relative who supports her. In addition to psychological preparation for partner childbirth, you need to collect the necessary documents, choose a maternity hospital, and pass the necessary tests. Healthy Food Near Me tells in detail about all of the above.

In which maternity hospitals are partner births possible?

Partner births in 2022 will be carried out in both public and private maternity hospitals. In the first case, you do not need to pay, but it is necessary to collect a package of documents for both the woman in labor and her husband or other close person. Partner births in public clinics are possible if the hospital has suitable conditions for this: a separate room for the woman in labor and her companion. In the event that all boxes for personal births are occupied, and women give birth in the same room, partner births are not performed. However, you can find out about this already on the spot.

Some public clinics have additional services that are paid separately. For example, staying in a single room or going through all the procedures and manipulations in the admissions department of the perinatal center without a queue. When registering paid services, a contract is concluded, which indicates the final amount and a list of selected services. Usually, the registration procedure occurs after the 35th week of pregnancy.

In private clinics, you can undergo an examination, take the necessary tests for a joint stay during childbirth, right on the spot. After that, a contract is concluded: it indicates the type of services provided.

When planning to make a choice in favor of partner delivery in 2022, it must be remembered that when a woman in labor is hospitalized, the accompanying person must have a negative PCR test for COVID-19. In the event that hospitalization is not planned, you need to do an express test right in the hospital. Instead of a negative PCR, some maternity hospitals allow you to provide a certificate of vaccination or a certificate of the presence of antibodies. Accurate information, as a rule, can be found on the website of the clinic you are interested in.

“Partner births also take place during the pandemic: both public and private maternity hospitals,” says   chief physician of the GKB them. V.V. Vinogradov and maternity hospital No. 4 Olga Sharapova. — Of course, there are a number of restrictions and forced measures. Now the partner who is present at the birth is required to have a certificate of vaccination against coronavirus or a negative PCR test. And nowhere without personal protective equipment: during childbirth, those present must be in a mask, protective suit and shoe covers. His movement in the maternity ward is also limited. This is necessary to avoid contact with staff and other women in labor.

If a woman giving birth has coronavirus, partner births are prohibited to reduce the risk of infection. Women in labor with a positive PCR test result are sent to covid hospitals, where all conditions have been created for the treatment of pregnant women and mothers with newborn children. (one)

Who can be a partner in a partnership birth

Both a relative (husband, mother, sister, another family member) and an outsider (photographer, psychologist, doula or close friend) can be present at the birth.

Anyone who wants to become a birth partner must undergo a medical examination. With a certificate from the therapist and the results of medical tests, the accompanying person applies to the head of the medical institution in which the birth will take place. In the absence of contraindications, the partner is allowed to the delivery room.

Not all state clinics can invite any other relatives, except for the husband, to give birth. Often they require a certificate confirming kinship. And about the presence of a girlfriend or a psychologist, the information needs to be clarified on the website of the maternity hospital or at the registry office – here different hospitals may have different procedures.

Do not forget about the negative PCR test, made no earlier than 3 days before the day of delivery. This rule is obligatory for everyone present in the Chamber.

Tests for partner births

The partner, who will be present in the delivery room, needs to pass a series of tests in advance. For partner births, their period should be no more than 6 months, that is, data, for example, seven months old, will not be suitable for registration.

Mandatory tests include:

  • fluorography;
  • HIV test;
  • analysis for hepatitis;
  • analysis of syphilis;
  • antibodies to crusts;
  • therapist’s conclusion.

You can take tests at the clinic under the MHI policy or for a fee – this remains at the discretion of the accompanying person. If partner births are arranged in a private clinic, testing is included in the total amount of the contract.

A PCR test for COVID-19 in a pandemic will have to be presented upon admission to the maternity hospital. No more than 48 hours should elapse from the date of receipt of the results. You can take PCR in a paid clinic or under a compulsory medical insurance policy. For example, in Moscow, information about working drop-off points can be found on the website of the Mayor of Moscow. Documents for partner births

For partner childbirth, a woman needs to collect a package of documents. It includes:

  • passport,
  • medical insurance policy,
  • exchange card (it is issued at the antenatal clinic when the gestational age reaches 20-22 weeks),
  • a copy of the sick leave,
  • test results that are not included in the exchange card (these may be examinations by other specialists, ultrasound studies),
  • insurance certificate of compulsory pension insurance and its copy on the front side.

The entire package of documents is collected before hospitalization, at 35-36 weeks of pregnancy.

Prices for partner births

Joint or partner births can be issued free of charge under the compulsory medical insurance policy in a state maternity hospital. There are also paid services in such maternity hospitals: their cost may vary depending on the region. Prices for partner delivery in a private clinic also largely depend on the location of the maternity hospital.

In the capital regions of Our Country, the average price tag for partner childbirth is much higher than in the whole country. Of course, what is included in the procedure for such childbirth also plays an important role. Private clinics may offer additional services: accommodation in a VIP room, birth support by a personal neonatologist, and so on. In public clinics, for an additional fee, you can get an individual ward, childbirth with a doula, or free visits to relatives.

Pros and cons of partnerships

Doctors and psychologists who have evaluated partner childbirth from the physical and psychological side note that they can have both positive and negative sides.

К pluses includes psychological support for a partner during childbirth. When a loved one is nearby, a woman in labor often ceases to feel excitement and anxiety. Women who went through the experience of partner childbirth spoke about a decrease in physical pain: the presence of a husband or relative in the ward has a positive effect on the emotional state. It is directly related to the ability to endure acute pain. (3)

– Firstly, the presence of a partner during childbirth is a huge psychological support for women in labor. It is always calmer when there is a loved one nearby. In addition, the birth of a child is an important event for the family. And it’s great that more and more men are eager to share it with a woman, – adds Olga Sharapova.

A partner, whether it is the mother of the woman in labor or her husband, can give the woman a massage, relax the muscles. A loved one during childbirth often monitors the actions of the medical staff so that the process goes smoothly and calmly. Even breathing is also important. Breathing practices help to calm down and concentrate on the process itself. The partner in this process acts as an assistant: the woman in labor feels not only the depth of her breath, but also the breath of her husband or close relative. (four)

Of minuses we can name the possible psychological discomfort of the partner due to the presence at the birth. It happens that the father goes to special courses in preparation for joint childbirth, but during the process itself he becomes ill: mentally or physically. Therefore, the decision to attend a partner birth must be approached consciously, considering all the risks.

If you wish, you can take special courses, but this is not necessary. The decision always remains with the partner and the woman in labor, who must confirm in writing the participation of a loved one in the birth process.
