Increasingly, parrot tulips are grown to decorate personal plots. And this is not surprising, because the variety is distinguished by its bright colors and exotic shape of the petals. In addition, attractive flowers are quite unpretentious, and a novice gardener can also grow them.

A similar variety of flowers has been known since the XNUMXth century. But parrot varieties began to be widely cultivated only from the last century. Their distinctive feature is the bizarre shape of the petals, reminiscent of the feathers of exotic birds. Actually, thanks to this, the variety got its name.

The flowering period for such tulips begins somewhat later, but lasts longer, about 2-3 weeks. As a rule, the buds open by mid-May. The buds are large, and some specimens reach 20 cm in diameter.

The best varieties of parrot tulips

Many varieties of these flowers have been bred by breeders. But the following are especially popular with Russian gardeners:

  • Black Parrot. Plant height 45−55 cm. A large glass with a diameter of 8 cm. The petals are colored dark purple with black veins. The exotic look gives the plant not only a shade, but also a pronounced fringe.
  • Estella Rijnveld. The plant reaches 30-45 cm in height. The glass is 12-15 cm in diameter. The petals are strongly corrugated, painted white with crimson stripes.
  • Blue Parrot. The growth of a tulip is about 50 cm. The glass is cupped. Its diameter is 15-20 cm, height is 9 cm. The petals are dark purple with a bronze tint.
  • Texas Gold. One of the tallest varieties. The growth of the plant reaches 60 cm. The circumference of the glass is 10 cm, the height is 8 cm. The petals are yellow with orange stripes and bright pink edging.
  • White Parrot. The height of the culture is 45 cm. The bud is goblet with a diameter of 8 cm and a height of about 10 cm. The petals with strongly jagged and wavy edges are painted in snow-white color with green veins.
  • Exotic Parrot. One of the most bizarre varieties. Differs in white-green petals with a bright red, jagged border. The growth of the culture is 65 cm.The diameter of the bud is 7-8 cm, the height is 10 cm.

If you want to decorate your flower bed with fancy flowers, then pay attention to parrot tulips. These cultures, with their exotic appearance, will undoubtedly attract attention. But at the same time, planting and caring for them does not take much time and effort.
