Parogen (paroxetine) is an antidepressant drug from the group of drugs that are serotonin reuptake inhibitors. It is issued only on prescription. Recommended in the case of severe depressive episodes, obsessive-compulsive disorders or social phobias. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter important in communication between neurons. Drugs such as Parogen help inhibit the serotonin reuptake process and prolong the action of serotonin at the synapse. Nerve impulses are sent more often.
Steam – in what cases is it used?
Lek Parogen issued on prescription with a dose closely matching the patient’s needs, it is recommended in cases of:
- severe episodes of depression,
- social phobias,
- obsessive-compulsive disorder,
- generalized anxiety disorder,
- post-traumatic stress disorder,
- anxiety disorders with or without agoraphobia.
Steam – side effects and precautions
With any medication, there is a risk of side effects. Parogen can also cause them. The most common are nausea, sexual dysfunction, sleepiness or insomnia, agitation, appetite disorders, increased cholesterol levels, sleep disturbances (nightmares), dizziness and headaches, impaired concentration, diarrhea, vomiting, weakness, weight gain. Less commonly, bleeding (e.g. ecchymosis), confusion, pupil dilation, hallucinations, pressure fluctuations, rash, urinary retention or incontinence may occur. Very rarely, anxiety, depersonalization, panic attacks, bradycardia, restless legs syndrome, hyperprolactinaemia may appear. Extremely rarely occur: thrombocytopenia, allergic reactions, serotonin syndrome, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver dysfunction, severe skin reactions.
There may also be other side effects that you should tell your doctor about.
By accepting Parogen, be careful if you suffer from a manic episode, have epilepsy, suffer from renal or hepatic insufficiency, have heart problems, use anticoagulants, and have had problems with blood clotting in the past. Parogen may affect the psychomotor skills of the patient. The drug should not be used in pregnant and breastfeeding women.
Parogen – interactions with other drugs
Inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, even those available without a prescription. Place Parogen should not be used concurrently with MAO inhibitors, during treatment with tamoxifen, anticoagulants and all drugs that affect platelets (antipsychotics such as clozapine, tricyclic antidepressants, acetylsalicylic acid, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), as they may increase the risk of bleeding. It is not recommended to use St. John’s wort preparations at the same time – they may also increase the risk of side effects. You should also not drink alcohol while taking paroxetine.
Parogen – reviews about the drug
Parogen opinions are very different, although the positive ones prevail, especially when it comes to patients suffering from social phobias or anxiety neuroses. Patients taking the drug noticed an improvement in mood and a return to life. The side effects seen at the start of taking the drug disappeared after about 2 weeks and a significant improvement was seen. Some people felt unwell when they stopped taking the drug after a long time of taking it.
