“My first memory of Red Square dates back to 1977, when I was 15 years old,” recalls Guerlain perfumer Thierry Wasser. – I came to Russia with my mother, and she really wanted to visit GUM. We went there and found ourselves in a majestic space where hundreds of boxes of perfume were sold … When I was asked to create a fragrance called Place Rouge (Red Square) in honor of the anniversary of GUM, this scene immediately surfaced in my memory. “
The perfumer’s childhood memories of Moscow did not disappoint Thierry Wasser: Place Rouge by Guerlain turned out to be very feminine and Russian girls will surely like it. The novelty opens with light accords of violet and jasmine, then bright notes of bergamot and rosemary join them, and sensual patchouli and white musk are heard in the trail.
Place Rouge by Guerlain is enclosed in a special bottle – L’Abeille, which, by the way, is also 160 years old this year! The silhouette of the GUM building is engraved on the bottle.
The novelty will be on sale from September exclusively at Articoli GUM.
Le Bolshoi 2012 La Traviata by Guerlain
Place Rouge by Guerlain is not the first perfume that Thierry Wasser dedicated to Moscow. Two years ago he created a limited edition Le Bolshoi. And in 2012, in honor of the opening of the Bolshoi Theater after reconstruction, Le Bolshoi 2012 La Traviata was released. The fragrance with notes of ylang-ylang, jasmine, vanilla and tonka beans, created on the basis of the legendary formula of Jean-Paul Guerlain, remains the same, but the bottle has changed. By the way, in its design the creators again turned to the well-forgotten old – it became a paraphrase of the bottle of Jicky, which Gabrielle Guerlain invented in due time.
Les Voyages Olfactifs 01 Paris-Moscow toilet water by Guerlain
And another creation of the Guerlain house is Les Voyages Olfactifs 01 Paris-Moscow eau de toilette. This fragrance appeared in 2009 and is still a success. However, this is not surprising: the light and at the same time bright composition impresses with an unusual combination of accords: plum and pine needle, pink currant and bergamot, jasmine and white musk … Apparently, French perfumers see the capital of Russia as unusual and contradictory.
Speaking about the fragrances dedicated to Moscow, one cannot but recall the famous perfume “Krasnaya Moskva” from the “Novaya Zarya” factory. This floral composition with notes of rose, jasmine, carnation and iris, diluted with invigorating accords of neroli, bergamot, vanilla and tonka bean has long been a success among women and, by the way, is still produced today. So, Coco Chanel herself once called this perfume “Soviet Chanel No. 5”.
The history of this fragrance deserves special attention: it dates back to 1864, when the French perfumer Heinrich Brocard founded the Empire Brocard perfume factory in Moscow, and in 1913 created the Empress’s Favorite Bouquet perfume for the anniversary of Empress Maria Feodorovna. A few years later, the production of these perfumes was resumed by the Novaya Zarya factory under the name Krasnaya Moskva, already known to us all.
Diaghilev perfume by Roja Dove
Another perfume about Moscow from the famous perfumer Roger Dove is Diaghilev, Roja Dove. From the name it is clear that the source of inspiration for Roger was not the architecture and character of Moscow, but the personality of the famous Russian philanthropist Sergei Diaghilev. However, there is no escape from the history of the capital of Russia: the idea of creating the scent came to Roger during a tour of the Moscow Kremlin. The fragrance was launched in 2009 and entered the Imperial Collection by Roja Dove, dedicated to great empires. At first, the perfume was released in a limited edition, but due to its immense popularity, the release was expanded in 2012.
Diaghilev by Roja Dove belongs to the unisex class and is especially popular with fans of unusual compositions. The fact is that the scent seems both fresh and sensual. At first, it opens with invigorating accords of bergamot, lemon, lime and orange, and after a while, warm notes of jasmine, rose, peach and black currant are heard on the skin.
