Paraffin therapy for the face: a cozy cocoon

For the effect of rosy, refreshed, smooth skin, paraffin masks are called facial spas. How do they work and how to organize paraffin relaxation at home?

What is paraffin therapy for the face in cosmetology

Paraffin therapy for the face is a cosmetic procedure: liquid cosmetic paraffin is applied to the skin like a mask, and then it is removed after it has completely solidified. Both hot and cold paraffin is used. This substance has gained popularity in cosmetology due to its elasticity, elasticity, heat capacity, the ability to retain and release heat for a long time.

The result of oil refining, paraffin does not apply to environmental materials. However, you should not worry about its safety. Only cosmetic, well-cleaned paraffin is applied to the face. Often, additional useful ingredients are introduced into its composition: nourishing oils, honey, glycerin, etc.

As experience shows, it is not very convenient to apply paraffin yourself. So it is better to arrange a paraffin spa in a good company – for example, to share the pleasure and benefit with your best friend.

Indications and contraindications

Paraffin masks (as well as paraffin baths for hands or feet) are super useful for the following skin problems:

  • dryness, peeling;

  • loss of tone;

  • age-related changes (wrinkles, loss of elasticity, sagging of the face oval).

However, contraindications to paraffin therapy, as well as to any other cosmetic procedure, are also available:

  • damage to the skin (scratches, wounds);

  • inflammation (exacerbations of acne, boils)

  • skin diseases (dermatitis, eczema, etc.);

  • exacerbation of herpes;

  • dilated capillaries;

  • a large number of moles;

  • arterial hypertension;

  • diabetes.

You can turn paraffin therapy into a spa ritual.

Benefits of paraffin therapy

The beneficial effects of paraffin therapy are explained by the density of the airtight film, long-term heat transfer and the occlusion effect: when solidified, the material decreases in volume by 15%, which already mechanically provides a tightening effect. In addition, additional substances that make up paraffin contribute to the restoration of natural beauty. Here’s what happens in the skin.

  • Slow deep warming improves capillary function and skin nutrition. It stops peeling, becomes denser and more elastic, wrinkles are smoothed out.

  • Under a dense warm film, the skin is steamed, the pores expand, are freed from the contents, and then shrink as the paraffin solidifies and shrinks.

  • The heat and pressure of the mask help the nutrients to penetrate deeper.

  • Under pressure, tissue films are released from excess fluid.

  • Thanks to the effect of occlusion, the oval of the face is tightened.

Types of procedures with paraffin

There are only two types of facial procedures – in hot and cold versions. The rest refer to their variations – the introduction of various additives for better hydration, rejuvenation, cleansing, etc. A separate topic is the use of paraffin baths for other parts of the body (arms, legs, elbows, decollete) and for epilation.

Hot

Paraffin is heated in a water bath, applied to the skin in several layers and removed 20-30 minutes after complete solidification. The procedure is recommended for deep cleansing, moisturizing, toning and lifting of the skin.

Cold

A “cream” is used, resembling paraffin in texture, which is applied with a special wooden spatula. Cold paraffin therapy helps to moisturize and nourish the skin. Lifting and elimination of edema does not occur. This is exactly the method suitable for hypertension, diabetes, dilated vessels and other contraindications to thermal procedures, when additional vasodilation is risky.

Cold paraffin therapy will also bring many benefits to the skin. And at the same time, the pleasure of taking care of yourself.

How is paraffin therapy performed?

The technique of performing the most effective hot paraffin therapy is the same in the salon and at home. For the session, you will need paraffin itself, a fabric mask with slits for the eyes, a small container, a brush for applying the composition. The procedure is simple, but takes a lot of time.

  1. Wash your face, gently pat your skin dry with a tissue.

  2. Apply a cream appropriate to the needs of the skin (moisturizing, nourishing, anti-aging, etc.) on the face. Remove unabsorbed residues with a tissue.

  3. Grind paraffin into small pieces, put in a container and place in a water bath. Attention! The composition should be intensely warm, but not burn. Test the drop on the skin of your wrist first to make sure it doesn’t get too hot. Keep in mind that the skin of the face can be even more sensitive to temperature than the wrist.

  4. Apply paraffin to the face with a brush with light movements in the sequence “forehead, nose, cheeks, chin”, avoiding the eye area.

  5. Apply a sheet mask over the first paraffin layer.

  6. Again, already on the mask, apply paraffin layer by layer. Requires at least 3-4 layers.

  7. After complete solidification, let the composition work for another 15-20 minutes.

  8. Pick up the frozen mask from below with your fingers and gently peel it off the skin from the bottom up. Don’t rush, be careful.

  9. Cleanse your face from paraffin residues with warm boiled water or a decoction of soothing herbs (chamomile, sage, etc.) and wipe the skin with a tonic.

  10. Finish off with a suitable skin cream.

Liquid paraffin can be mixed with honey and other traditional ingredients, looks very tempting.

What is the best way to use paraffin at home

Of course, it must be enriched. We are talking about ingredients that can be usefully mixed into paraffin. The main rule when using the “hot method” is that they should not collapse in heat. Here are some of the most popular and effective recipes. They can be used during paraffin therapy as a first layer or as independent masks.

Moisturizing Paraffin Mask

Mix 2 tbsp. l. melted paraffin, 1 tsp. cocoa butter, 1 tsp almond oil, 1 tsp lanolin. Apply to the skin for 20-30 minutes, avoiding the eye area.

Nourishing paraffin mask with honey

Mix 2 tbsp. l. melted paraffin with 1 tsp. liquid honey. Apply to the skin in a dense layer for 20-30 minutes, avoiding the eye area.

Anti-inflammatory mask with aloe

Mix 1 tbsp. l. melted paraffin with 1 tbsp. l. aloe juice, apply to the skin in a dense layer for 20-30 minutes, avoiding the eye area.

Toning mask
