Panprazox is a medicine that is used to treat gastro-oesophageal reflux disease. It is only available by prescription. The dosage and duration of treatment is different for children and adults. Check out what else you need to know about Panprazox.
Panprazox – action
Panprazox is a prescription-only medicine. The active substance is pantoprazole. It is a substance from the group of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs).
Pantoprazole inhibits the secretion of hydrochloric acid in the parietal cells of the gastric mucosa. This is because the substance acts on the proton pump enzyme. In direct proportion to the amount of inhibited acid, the level of gastrin in the body increases.
Inhibition of acid secretion leads to an increase in gastric pH, i.e. a decrease in acidity. The intensity of the drug’s action depends on the dose taken. The drug has an inhibitory effect on basal and stimulated acid secretion.
The drug should completely eliminate the symptoms of the disease after about two weeks of use. It is in the form of a tablet. It is taken before or after a meal.
Food may delay the effect of the drug but does not reduce its stability. The maximum concentration of the drug is reached 2,5 hours after swallowing the tablet.
