Why are so many people in quarantine?

People who have had contact with a person infected with the coronavirus are quarantined. They are then banned from leaving the house by the Sanepid. On the gov.pl website we read that the quarantine applies to people who:

  2. cross the border of the Republic of Poland from the Schengen area,
  3. had contact with people infected with coronavirus, living with an infected (isolated) person,

Quarantine may take 10 to 14 days. The Ministry of Health also advises that police officers can check whether quarantined persons remain at their place of residence. The regulations provide for the possibility of imposing a financial penalty of up to PLN 30. PLN on those who do not comply with quarantines.
