Yesterday prof. Andrzej Horban, head of the medical council at the prime minister, said that if the government decides to introduce a lockdown, it will only be in part of the country. When asked on TVN24 whether the government is considering introducing another lockdown, prof. Horban said that “if people do not get vaccinated, at least in those counties, places where there is a lot of contamination, significant behavioral restrictions will have to be introduced.” – As far as I know, this is about 20 percent of counties, i.e. one fifth of the country would be subject to it – said Horban.
Why are so many people in quarantine?
People who have had contact with a person infected with the coronavirus are quarantined. They are then banned from leaving the house by the Sanepid. On the gov.pl website we read that the quarantine applies to people who:
- cross the border of the Republic of Poland, which is the external border of the EU,
- cross the border of the Republic of Poland from the Schengen area,
- had contact with people infected with coronavirus, living with an infected (isolated) person,
- have been referred for COVID-19 testing by a primary or night care physician.
Quarantine may take 10 to 14 days. The Ministry of Health also advises that police officers can check whether quarantined persons remain at their place of residence. The regulations provide for the possibility of imposing a financial penalty of up to PLN 30. PLN on those who do not comply with quarantines.
