What is palming?
Palming This is an eye relaxation exercise. It is very ancient, and probably came to us from yoga. The palming exercise should be done every time you feel tension in your eyes, tiredness and emotional discomfort, or when you just have a free moment and you want to devote it to your vision.
At first glance, eye palming is a very simple exercise that does not require any effort. However, an unprepared person may have problems performing it, especially the psychological part of palming.
How to do palming?
To begin, stretch and straighten your fingers so that the palms take a flat shape. Then grind them until a light, pleasant warmth appears, unfold them in front of you and fold them into a kind of bowl, as if you want to give someone a drink without spilling water. The fingers of one hand should be crossed with the fingers of the other, and the palms should be rounded. Now attach the resulting design to the upper part of the face, as if putting on glasses: the nose should be between the little fingers and breathe freely, and the eyes should be in complete darkness inside the makeshift bowls of the palms.
During the exercise, the eyes should be kept open, and the shoulders, elbows, fingers and palms should be relaxed. The same applies to the whole body: take a comfortable position – lie down, sit on a chair or armchair, or sit on the floor with your legs crossed under you. You can rest your elbows on your knees or on the countertop, after placing a sofa cushion to make it softer and more comfortable.
The essence of the “palming” eye exercise is as follows: if you are sitting, lean forward slightly from the starting position, while keeping your back, neck and head in one, perfectly straight line, but without straining your muscles. Look ahead of you, not peering into the oppressive darkness, but turning your gaze as if into the distance. Think about something abstract and pleasant: make plans for the future, indulge in good memories, try to get in harmony with your own body, let go of fatigue and anxiety, tune in to productive work. At first, there may be a gray veil or light glare in front of the eyes, then complete blackness will gradually come.
To understand if you are doing palming for the eyes correctly, you need to make sure that your whole body is completely relaxed, but is strictly in a given position, as if a rod is inserted into you from the very top of your head to the tailbone, while your shoulders are straightened, your lungs are free are filled with air. The correctness of the location of the palms on the face is checked as follows: blink several times – if the eyes open and close easily, and the eyelashes do not touch the skin of the hands, then you are holding them correctly.
At the end of the exercise, make several movements with the eyeballs up and down and from side to side. Imagine a completely black canvas in front of you. Try to write a word on it with glowing green ink or circle a geometric figure along the contour. Close your eyes tightly, and then completely relax your eyes, but do not open them. Remove your palms from your face, wait a few seconds, and then gradually open your eyelashes and look into the distance so as not to injure the visual apparatus with a sharp transition from complete darkness to light.
Exercise duration
This simple exercise to relax the eyes is enough to do for 15-30 seconds at first, then you can double this time. The more often you practice palming, and the longer you rest your eyes, the better the effect will be.
Over time, this practice will become a habit for you, as you will be surprised to find that palming really does a great job of relieving eye fatigue during prolonged work at the computer, reading, needlework and other activities that require constant eye strain.
Palming result
The “palming” exercise for the eyes is otherwise called biophoresis, because during this procedure we act on the visual apparatus with the warmth and biological energy of our own hands. In order for biophoresis for the eyes to bring the maximum positive effect, it is very important to warm up the palms before doing the exercise. You can also increase the effectiveness with the help of this technique: go to the window and look at the sun, and then close your eyes and start palming – this way you first “ban” the sunlight, and then, as it were, “absorb” it into yourself.
Numerous medical studies confirm the benefits of regular exercise “palming” or “biophoresis for the eyes” – it has been proven that in this simple way it is possible to slow down the natural aging of the visual apparatus and prevent the development of many pathologies: myopia, strabismus, astigmatism, retinal detachment, optic nerve atrophy, cataracts , glaucoma. If you already have vision problems, palming for the eyes will help prevent their aggravation or successfully rehabilitate after surgery.
