Pak Choi: growing seeds

Pak Choi: growing seeds

Pak Choi is a type of cabbage native to China. It is suitable for preparing salads, can be used as a side dish or as an independent vegetable dish. This dietary and healthy vegetable is easy to grow in the climatic conditions of Russia.

Planting Pak Choi seeds in open ground

Seeds of this variety can be sown outdoors or germinated at home. It is better to choose the first option and sow immediately to a permanent place, since the pak choy does not tolerate transplanting well.

Pak Choi can be eaten one month after planting.

Sowing requires the following:

  1. In the fall, choose a spot for the cabbage. It is desirable that it be in partial shade, as the plant loves coolness. The best predecessors in the garden are onions, legumes, and pumpkin.
  2. Prepare the soil. Dig it up and apply phosphate and organic fertilizers to the ground.
  3. In the spring, dig up the ground again and add the urea.
  4. In early or mid-summer, when the soil warms up well, dig small holes 3 cm deep, stepping back 30 cm from each other. The distance between the rows should be about 35 cm.
  5. Place 3 seeds in each hole, lightly cover them with earth and cover with foil.

If everything is done correctly, the first shoots will appear in a week. All that remains is to provide them with good care in order to get a harvest of cabbage.

It doesn’t take much effort to grow Chinese cabbage.

Basic care is as follows:

  • Water the cabbage with warm water as needed, avoiding excess moisture or drying out the soil.
  • Loosen the soil carefully to avoid hitting the roots of the plant.
  • Remove weeds in a timely manner. Weeding can be replaced by soil mulching. To do this, cover it with pine needles, straw or sawdust.
  • Feed the plant with mineral fertilizers or ash. Add mullein infusion to the soil 2 times during the growing season. Also fertilize the soil after prolonged rains. Potassium, ammonium nitrate and superphosphate can be used as fertilizers.
  • Monitor the condition of the leaves. To prevent diseases, spray the beds with special agents.
  • If arrows form within a month after planting, then they must be removed, cutting off about 3 cm from ground level.

Chinese cabbage is an unpretentious plant; even a novice gardener can take care of it. Following simple rules in the process of planting and growing, a ripe crop can be obtained in 30 days.

Grow a healthy crop in your garden and reap a good harvest.
