Paint and oxidizer: how to mix? Video
When using conventional home dyes, simply mix the dye and oxidizer in the box. In this case, there is no need to independently determine the desired proportions. When you use professional paint, oxidants for it are sold separately, in bottles of different capacities. The required mixing proportions must be determined independently.
When purchasing a dye in a specialized store, you can immediately buy an oxidizing agent for this type of paint. Please note that both the dye and the oxidizing agent must be from the same manufacturer, only in this case it can be guaranteed that the accurately calculated proportions will turn out to be correct. Oxidants come in different concentrations, which must be indicated on the bottle as a percentage. This is the amount of hydrogen peroxide. Its content can vary from 1,8 to 12%.
An oxidizing agent with a content of less than 2% peroxide is the most gentle, it has almost no effect on the tone of the paint during application and is necessary only for the coloring pigment to act on the one that is already on your hair
Oxidants with a high content of hydrogen peroxide additionally discolor your natural pigment and allow you to obtain shades that are several tones lighter when stained with the same dye.
How to calculate the required proportions when mixing paint with an oxidizing agent
In the instructions that are attached to the dye, it is necessary to indicate the oxidizer with what content of peroxide and in what proportion must be mixed with it in order to obtain the shade indicated on the box.
Many manufacturers have a 1: 1 mixing ratio for bright, rich tones.
For tone-on-tone coloring, a 3% oxidizer is used, if you want to get a shade one tone lighter, in the same amount you need to use a 6% oxidant, two tones lighter – 9%, three – 12%
In cases where you want to dye your hair light colors, the amount of oxidizer should be doubled as compared to the amount of dye. For lightening three tones, use 9% oxidizer, for five tones use 12%. For pastel toning when coloring hair, special emulsion oxidizing compositions with a low peroxide content – less than 2% are used, which are added to the dye in a 2: 1 ratio.
Hair must not be washed for at least 3-4 days before dyeing
How to paint your head at home
To dye your hair yourself, you will need:
- dye and oxidizing agent of the required condition
- latex gloves
- glass or plastic mixing stick
- special brush for hair coloring
- glass or porcelain mixing cup
To ensure that your hair is colored evenly, periodically comb it from the roots with a plastic comb with sparse teeth.
Mix the dye and oxidizer correctly according to the instructions and these recommendations. It is necessary to apply the coloring composition immediately, starting from the roots of the hair on the back of the head, and if you are coloring with ombre on dark hair, the application must be started from the ends.
Observe exactly the holding time specified in the instructions. Rinse hair dye and apply a nourishing balm.
