Shoulder pain is very common in elderly people. The disease is more common in women aged 45–55.

They can be caused by post-traumatic changes, orthopedic, nervous or vascular diseases. However, the main cause appears to be degeneration of the tendon tissue, mainly changes in the attachment of the supraspinatus. Pain can come on suddenly or slowly. Strong and sudden pain is observed in acute gout, traumatic or inflammatory lesions. It is accompanied by the restriction of shoulder mobility. Sometimes it can be pain from a transfer from the cervical spine, without restricting shoulder movement. One of the causes of shoulder pain may be heart disease. Pain coming from the heart more often radiates to the shoulders and arms, as it travels from the heart to the brain in the same segments of the spine as the pain from the shoulders.

In diagnosing shoulder pain, it is important to determine the place where the pain occurs and the type of limitation of the efficiency of this section of the musculoskeletal system. If severe sudden shoulder pain occurs during work or sudden movement, the torsion ring should be damaged. If the pain symptoms persist after conservative treatment, it may be caused by the syndrome of subacromial tightness.

Treatment

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, temporary suspension of the arm, and physical treatment provide relief in the pain associated with shoulder joint inflammation. In acute forms, topical use of steroids. For other causes – drugs specific to the disease in question.

Damage to the torsion ring and subacromial tightness requires surgical treatment.
