Pain in the genital area

With the appearance of pain in the genital area, one should not expect that the pain will disappear by itself. Moreover, you can not use any improvised means to eliminate it. Most often, pain in the genitals is associated with a certain disease, so you should immediately consult a doctor. It is important to note that discomfort in the genitals in men and women can be triggered by completely different reasons.

In both men and women, pain and discomfort can be caused by a variety of non-infectious causes. The pain may gradually increase, itching and burning may appear. Also, most often, it is accompanied by various secretions.

Causes of pain in women

Pain in the genitals in women can occur due to many reasons. One of these reasons may be the disease bartholinitis. In this case, the Bartholin glands, which are located near the vagina, are affected. The causative agent of this disease can be gonococcus, streptococcus, staphylococcus, trichomonas, E. coli.

Initially, the patient develops a small seal at the entrance to the vagina, which is complicated by suppuration and the development of an abscess. With this disease, swelling in the labia and red-purple color of the skin can be observed. It should be noted that the pain is especially felt in the sitting position and when moving. Also during the period of this disease, there is pain during intercourse, loss of strength, and body temperature rises sharply. In certain cases, the seal may open spontaneously, after which the patient’s condition will improve significantly.

Vulvovaginitis is an inflammation of the labia. This disease may be associated with irritation of the organs by linen or secretions. The main symptoms: itching, swelling of the labia, pain during urination and movement, redness. It is also possible the appearance of an unpleasantly smelling discharge of a yellow-green hue.

Thrush can also cause pain, while the mucous membrane becomes red, severe itching, burning and curdled discharge appear.

Vulvodynia is a chronic inflammation of the labia. Pain and burning can cause even the slightest touch when using pads and tampons during critical days. Also, discomfort can occur when riding a bicycle and during sexual contact.

No less common disease is gardnerellosis, one of the varieties of vaginal dysbacteriosis. Gardnerellosis is accompanied by pain, itching, discharge, an unpleasant odor and difficulty urinating.

Many women know that the main symptom of diseases of the uterus and appendages is pain in the abdomen. Most often, patients indicate unilateral or diffuse pain in the lower abdomen. Often she gives to the lumbar, gluteal region.

The most pronounced pain is observed in the following diseases:

  • acute inflammatory disease of the uterus and appendages;
  • sudden rupture of the ovaries;
  • twist the legs of the cyst;
  • endometriosis;
  • swelling;
  • malformation of the female genital organs.

It should be noted that quite strong pain in the lower abdomen can be observed in the first days of menstruation.

With certain inflammatory diseases of the uterus and appendages, the localization of pain can determine the lesion. With inflammation of the uterus, pain is characteristic above the pubis, with inflammation of the appendages – in the lower lateral abdomen.

The pain increases gradually and reaches its maximum intensity after a couple of hours. At the same time, it increases with movement and touching the stomach, and is also accompanied by fever and general weakness.

There is pain, most often, during or after the completion of menstruation, after childbirth, abortion or the introduction of an intrauterine contraceptive.

external genitalia

In addition to pain in the internal genital organs, pain in the external genital organs, as a rule, is observed with injuries.

The injury can be caused by a fall or during childbirth. Various bruises and birth injuries can lead to the formation of a subcutaneous hematoma, when blood from damaged vessels begins to accumulate under the skin. Bruises in the external female organs have the appearance of swelling of a red-purple color and a rather large size. The main complaint that patients talk about is pain in the area of injury and difficulty moving.

Pain in the genitals in men

Pain in the genital area in men can occur with inflammatory diseases, injuries and various neoplasms. One of the most common causes is testicular torsion, one of the urgent pathological conditions of the scrotum. The pain is quite sharp and strong, often it is associated with physical activity. If you do not immediately begin treatment, the pain may decrease, as sensitivity is lost in the affected testicle. But after a few days, a new peak occurs due to increased swelling and inflammation.

With a disease such as epididymitis, the pain increases gradually and at first is localized in the scrotum. Young men most often become ill after unprotected intercourse or may become infected due to concomitant urethritis. Intestinal bacteria may be an etiological factor in patients over 35 years of age.

A testicular neoplasm is usually not accompanied by pain, but an enlarged testicle indicates the possible presence of a neoplasm and the need to consult a doctor, since most often an increase in this organ is caused by a malignant tumor.

An inguinal hernia in the scrotum looks very similar to a tumor, it is detected by a thickening in the region of its base. If part of the intestine enters the hernial opening, then the noise of peristalsis can be heard during the diagnosis. The hernia itself can be detected by palpation of the inguinal region. It is important to understand that in the prone position, the size of the hernial protrusion can significantly decrease if the patient is in a relaxed state.

Spermatocele is a disease in which seminal cysts appear in the testicles, and the accumulated fluid contains sperm. These formations can be detected by palpation near the upper pole of the testis.

Pain during pregnancy

Usually, pain in the genital area during pregnancy is associated with ongoing changes in the body of the expectant mother. During pregnancy, the blood supply to the genitals increases markedly. In this regard, such a problem as varicose veins of the genital organs may appear, which in turn can cause unpleasant painful sensations. If a pregnant woman feels pain in the genital area, she should immediately consult a doctor to rule out the possible development of pathologies. Women during lactation may feel pain for no apparent reason. After childbirth, symptoms may persist for about 3-12 months. The cause of pain may be surgery during childbirth. When a woman has mucosal ruptures during childbirth, doctors resort to surgery to prevent perineal muscle ruptures. The place of operation may disturb the patient for about 1-2 months after childbirth.

When pain occurs, men and women should not self-medicate. Doctors such as a gynecologist, urologist, venereologist, dermatologist can find out the causes of these unpleasant sensations. It may be necessary to consult other specialists. It depends on the alleged diagnosis, which the doctor will establish. You can do this accurately by visiting doctors and passing all the necessary tests.
