Once upon a time, women who suffered from ovulation disorders could count on getting pregnant… and that was that – they could only count. Today’s medicine, however, allows you to stimulate ovulation, and thus increase your chances of having the desired child.
Hormonal stimulation – pills and injections that will help you get pregnant!
In a healthy woman, one or two Graafian follicles are formed during one ovulatory cycle. In a nutshell, the stimulation of ovulation itself consists in administering drugs to a woman to stimulate the ovulation process. Thanks to pharmaceuticals, the number of Graafian follicles maturing during the cycle increases – and thus the chance of pregnancy increases. Ovulation stimulation is also used in the treatment of ovulation disorders.
What drugs are used to stimulate ovulation?
If your partner has not been diagnosed with infertility, the doctor will probably suggest a therapy with clomiphene citrate. This drug induces ovulation in up to 75% of women who have not yet ovulated! However, this does not guarantee pregnancy. Approximately 15-20% of women in this group become pregnant. Clomiphene is usually used for a maximum of 4 or 5 cycles, if during this time the woman does not become pregnant, the procedure should be changed – consulting a specialist.
How does hormonal stimulation work?
The drugs are administered at the very beginning of the ovulatory cycle for about 5 days. Ovulation should occur a week after taking the last tablet. If, approximately 20 days after taking the last tablet, ovulation does not occur, the treatment is repeated in the next cycle.
How long to take medication? How much dose?
The dose and selection of the drug should always be at the discretion of the physician. We must be aware that wrong proportions may result in the release of two or more eggs, and thus a high probability of multiple pregnancy.
In INVICTA clinics, a specialist selects drugs and their dose based on several components: a thorough medical history, tests performed and their results. Each time the doctor’s decision relates to the specific medical situation of the patient – thanks to which the effectiveness of treatment increases.
