Oven cleaning systems: catalytic or pyrolytic? Video
Cleaning a dirty oven cavity is rather unpleasant. However, some models of modern ovens with self-cleaning systems can take on this hard work.
Catalytic oven cleaning
All oven self-cleaning systems are divided into low-temperature (pyrolytic) and high-temperature (catalytic). The low-temperature system assumes the decomposition of fat particles that have fallen on the wall with slight heating by a chemical method, that is, by a catalytic method. An oven with such a cleaning system is not covered with smooth, but with porous enamel. These pores contain catalyst particles that accelerate the decomposition of fat molecules into simple products – water, carbon dioxide, light organic residues.
Catalytic cleaning takes place at a temperature of 140-160 ° C, most intensively at 200 ° C. In some models (for example, Bosch-Siemens), which have a catalytic coating ecoClean, the process called “ecolysis” takes place at a temperature of 270 ° C, fatty deposits are decomposed to a higher degree. After cooking, it is enough to wipe the walls of the oven with a napkin. Over time, the effectiveness of the coating decreases and the oven must be cleaned in the usual way.
Do not wash the catalytic filter in the dishwasher together with the dishes, as its pores can become clogged with food debris and it will not work
Sometimes catalytic filters and panels are supplied as accessories for electric stoves and ovens. The filters are dishwasher safe. The panels are not subject to regeneration, although their resource is rather long – about 300 hours.
Pyrolytic way to clean the oven
The pyrolytic type of cleaning occurs during the thermal process of decomposition of substances without their oxidation. These oven models are called self-cleaning. The combustion process of contaminants occurs at a temperature of about 500 ° C. After that, you just need to wipe off the ash formed during the pyrolysis process. This cleaning method, despite its effectiveness, has its drawbacks: – an unpleasant odor resulting from the combustion of contaminants, – the high cost of such ovens, – significant energy costs.
In models from Siemens, you do not need to wash the inner surface of the door, since it has a special glass that is cleaned together with the walls of the oven.
Pyrolytic cleaning must be carried out with the hood switched on. As for the second drawback, such ovens are much more expensive. The pyrolytic cleaning function is available in the following oven models: – Bosch, – Miele, – Ariston, – Siemens.
