Our doctor’s opinion
Scarlet fever is a relatively common condition in children and adolescents. In the past, it was considered a serious disease because of the complications it could cause, especially rheumatic fever and glomerulonephritis. Antibiotics have changed that outlook, but proper treatment of the infection is important to avoid complications. If your child has a fever, swollen neck glands, and a reddish rash, see your doctor.
