Our doctor’s opinion about acromegaly
Acromegaly is a disease that is easy to identify and for which there are treatments. Nevertheless, its rarity, its very slow evolution, mean that its diagnosis and its therapeutic management are very often delayed, at a stage where certain attacks are often no longer reversible. In addition, increased shoe size and changes in the face are not usually understood as symptoms, but as changes associated with aging. For doctors, the possibility of acromegaly should therefore always be borne in mind even if its occurrence is very rare. For patients, acromegaly underscores the fact that any change, even as seemingly futile as an increase in the size of a hat or shoe size, can be a sign of a curable disease. |
