Martial law was imposed in Ukraine after it was attacked by Our Country. This decision affects the operation of many areas, including the health care system.

All elective procedures and scheduled hospital admissions have been suspended pending a different decision – said the Ukrainian Minister of Health Viktor Laszko. At the same time, he added that medical facilities will provide the necessary assistance to all who need it.

Laszko assured that hospitals had supplies of drugs, medical products, consumables and infusion fluids. They also have precise mechanisms for replenishing and renewing funds. Hospitals are also equipped with autonomous power sources.

– All regional medical rescue centers are involved, which ensure uninterrupted, trouble-free and round-the-clock medical assistance – emphasized the head of the Ministry of Health.

Immediately after Our Country’s aggression against Ukraine, the mayor of Kiev, Vitaly Klitschko, called on the city’s inhabitants to stay at home and “keep documents and essentials”.

– The worst enemy right now is panic. We do not lose our composure. Anyone who is not involved in the city’s critical infrastructure and maintenance services stays at home, he said.

– We still care about the functioning of the city – added Kliczko. The mayor also explained that schools in the country’s capital are closed, but hospitals remain open.

The growing threat from Our Country some time ago prompted the local Ukrainian authorities to make an appeal for blood donation, still “hoping that it would not be needed”.

– Blood is such a magic medicine. It cannot be produced. And if the donor does not come or donate blood, you simply will not get it, says Tatiana Kanchura, coordinator of the Ukrainian Donor Project in the Southeast region.

The situation is not easy, because in Ukraine, as in many other countries, the coronavirus pandemic caused a decrease in blood supply.

There is no shortage of blood in Kiev so far. About 60 people a day recently reported to blood donation points in the capital of Ukraine. Monthly it was up to 2,5 thousand. collections that provided over a thousand liters of blood. As local officials emphasize, this amount is sufficient for urgent needs in peacetime. In times of armed conflict, the needs are much greater.

– In peacetime, blood saves victims of accidents and is needed in complicated operations, and in war it helps in saving the wounded – explains Kanchura.

According to WHO recommendations, cities should have a blood bank with an emergency reserve of an average of 12 milliliters of blood per person. However, there are not enough places in Ukraine where blood can be stored for long periods.
