  • It is noteworthy that the topic of money worries a large part of the population to one degree or another – 24% of respondents experience money-related stress on an ongoing basis, 55% – from time to time, while 17% rarely worry about money, and never – all the same 4% of the lucky ones.
  • The survey was conducted in July 2021 among 1,5 thousand residents of large cities in our country over 20 years old. Among them, 60% are women, 40% are men.

What does it mean

The coronavirus pandemic has had a negative impact on the global economy and has led to a decline in household incomes. According to Rosstat, real disposable money income in our country fell by 3% in 2020. Of course, in this regard, the topic of money has become a key problem for a large number of families.

It is worth noting that finances are the main source of stress not only in our country – according to a study conducted in 2021 by the American company Capital One CreditWise, 73% of US residents consider money to be the main cause of stress in their lives. Among them, financial problems are most often of concern to young people – representatives of generation Z and millennials.

Psychologists note that in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been an increase in stress over money among the population.

“There is a palpable fear of actual death that coincides with the economic crisis and only adds to the stress,” explains financial psychologist Brad Klontz.

Earlier, a study by the Romir holding showed that the number of our countries experiencing stress decreased in 2021, but remained quite high.
