Ototalgin ear drops is a preparation intended for use in inflammation of the ear. It can also be used to rinse the ear canal to soften the accumulated earwax.
Ototalgin and ear soreness
The active substance of Ototalgin is choline salicylatewhich has anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic properties. Choline salicylate, like other salicylates, inhibits the activity of cyclooxygenases – enzymes responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins from lipids in cell membranes. It is the excess synthesis of prostaglandins that causes pain and inflammation. Ototalgin, through the choline salicylate contained in it, inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins, giving relief to inflammation and pain in the ear.
Ototalgin – dosage of the drug
Ototalgin is an over-the-counter medicine, adults can use it 2-4 times a day, 3-4 drops per application. The drug should be taken lying down, after instillation in the ear it is recommended to stay lying down for a few minutes for better absorption of the preparation. If there is no improvement in health within three days, you should immediately see a doctor for further diagnosis.
During the visit, inform the doctor about the medication you are taking, how often it was taken and whether we used other medications or pain relief methods during the home treatment.
Contraindications to the use of Ototalgin ear drops are additional symptoms accompanying ear pain, such as: purulent or bloody discharge from the ear, constantly worsening pain in the ear, and deterioration of hearing. Ototalgin can not be used also when previously diagnosed damage to the eardrum.
Ototalgin – side effects
If Ototalgin is used by children or pregnant women, a doctor should be consulted each time, even though it is available without a prescription. The same should be done during breastfeeding, although studies so far have not shown the effect of Ototalgin ear drops on the composition and quality of food.
If a patient using Ototalgin notices undesirable symptoms, such as fever or dizziness, this is a reason for additional consultation with a doctor. Remember that the use of any over-the-counter medication interferes with our body and may result in the appearance of unexpected, negative symptoms. So before we decide on the Ototalgin treatment with ear drops, make sure that we are not allergic to any of the substances listed in the composition of the drug, and that our condition allows us to take the drug.
