Ostovap D3 is used to prevent calcium deficiency in people who take insufficient amounts with food. As an auxiliary in the prevention of osteoporosis and osteomalacia, in states of increased muscle excitability and tendency to tetanic attacks, after prolonged immobilization and recovery after bone injuries, in people with impaired calcium reabsorption from the renal tubules, in the treatment of upper respiratory tract infections and allergic diseases.

ACTION
Ostowap D3 is a combined preparation containing vitamins and minerals.
Ostowap D3 – indications and dosage
Ostovap D3 is a drug recommended:
- to prevent calcium deficiency in patients not taking enough calcium
- auxiliary in the prevention of osteoporosis and osteomalacia,
- in increased muscle excitability and tendency to tetany attacks,
- after prolonged immobilization and in the recovery period after bone injuries,
- in patients with impaired absorption of calcium from the renal tubules,
- in the treatment of upper respiratory tract infections and allergic diseases.
Drug dosage
Ostovap D3 is in the form of tablets to be taken by mouth. Take the medicine before or during a meal.
- Adults and children after 12 years of age: prophylactically 1-2 tablets. of the preparation Ostowap D3 / d or 1 tablet. Ostowap D3 Forte / d preparation,
- in other indications, individual dosing.
Ostovap D3 and contraindications
Contraindication to the use of Ostowap D3 are:
- hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients,
- high levels of calcium in the blood or excessive excretion in the urine
- severe kidney failure,
- urolithiasis,
- taking other preparations containing vitamin at the same time D3.
Ostowap D3 – warnings
- Blood calcium levels and urine excretion should be monitored during long-term use of Ostovap D3.
- Patients with a tendency to build up mineral deposits in the urinary tract are recommended to drink more fluids.
- The effect of the preparation is significantly reduced in people with impaired intestinal absorption.
- Do not use the drug in people with phenylketonuria due to the content of aspartame, which is a source of phenylalanine.
- There is no information on the safety of taking the preparation in pregnant and breast-feeding women.
- Ostovap D3 should only be used when, in the doctor’s opinion, the benefit for the mother outweighs the potential risk for the child. An overdose of vitamin D should be avoided.
- Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before taking the drug.
Ostowap D3 and other substances
- Parathyroid hormone and an acidic food increase the absorption of calcium salts.
- The absorption of calcium salts from the gastrointestinal tract is reduced by chronically taken corticosteroids, anticonvulsants (phenytoin, phenobarbital, primidone), excess lipid compounds in food, phytates, oxalates, phosphates, alcohol and smoking.
- Orally administered calcium compounds reduce the absorption of tetracyclines, iron preparations and fluoride compounds (including fluoroquinolones) and anticoagulants (warfarin derivatives).
- Taking this drug with thiazide diuretics increases the risk of hypercalcaemia.
- The drug may reduce the effectiveness of verapamil and other calcium antagonists and increase the toxic effects of digitalis glycosides.
- If it is necessary to use the above-mentioned drugs, a 3-hour interval should be left between their administration and the use of the preparation.
Ostovap D3 – side effects
While taking Ostowap D3, the following may occur: gastrointestinal disorders, anorexia, increased thirst, increased urination, abdominal pain, bone pain.
