Osteopathy in children
A palpation. A manual therapy based on palpation that restores the mobility and quality of all tissues, essential for good health.
Identify upset tissues. For the osteopath, the joints, ligaments, muscles and tissues that surround the bones are living, moving structures. When they encounter an obstacle, they deform, creating an imbalance in another part of the body: it is an open door to disease.
What does she heal?
A “deformed” head. The baby was probably squeezed during the last weeks of pregnancy and during the expulsion his head encountered the obstacle in the pelvis. Of course, more often than not, his skull will round spontaneously in a few days, but the stake is more important: the baby’s skull is connected to his pelvis by the spine. And a slight trauma there can have repercussions on the back, the hips and even the legs. Likewise, when the newborn always turns his head to the same side, the osteopath will be interested in the whole of the skull, but also in the thorax and the pelvis: it is the deformation of one of these tissues that requires the baby to stand in this position. And it is only by restoring the mobility of each of these elements of the chain which goes from the pelvis to the cervicals that the practitioner will succeed in relieving the tensions.
Bad sleep. Poor posture or digestion issues can prevent your little one from sleeping like a baby. The osteopath will palpate your child from head to toe and look for anomalies of tension of the skull, sequelae of pressure of the cord on the cervical region or the skull, which could explain these bad nights.
Repeated rhinos or ear infections. If their diaphragm is constricted, the child is not breathing well. The phlegm builds up and infections multiply. Likewise, the buildup of serum in the ear can result from poor drainage. By freeing chest movements, the osteopath relaxes the diaphragm and promotes correct circulation of secretions.
Colic, postponement, constipation. He has problems with transit and digestion. Thanks to palpation and manipulations, the osteopath can detect and then release a hypertensive diaphragm which prevents part of the milk from entering the stomach, a “bent” intestine which hinders transit or an overly tight anus.
What happens during a session ?
The baby is in a diaper, sitting or lying on the examination table. The osteopath places his hands on your little one’s skull, then gradually feels the entire skeleton, joints, tissues and organs. Precise and gentle gestures, he searches for areas of the body or skull that have lost their elasticity or mobility. Manipulations, he then intervenes on the organ in question, but also on all those who are connected to it. At first the baby is a little surprised, then very quickly he relaxes and sometimes even falls asleep.
