Oscar-winning cartoons

Exciting and at first glance purely entertaining plots of modern cartoons are often much deeper than those where real actors were filmed, and not drawn. These are, for example, the 2019 Oscar nominees Incredibles-2 and Isle of Dogs: about adult crises, selfless mutual assistance, and sincere friendship. While we are waiting for who will take the main prize of the Film Academy, Wday.ru together with ivi online cinema have prepared a selection of Oscar-winning cartoons of the past.

A kind and instructive cartoon about the Mexican boy Miguel, who more than anything else wants to become a musician in spite of the family ban. It’s all about a distant ancestor who once left his wife for music. Mysteriously, Miguel enters the world of the dead, where he goes in search of his deceased idol. The film received two Oscars: not only as the best cartoon, but also for the best song.

Zootopia is a huge modern city inhabited by various animals. The main character is fragile Judy, who became the first rabbit police officer in history. Colleagues treat her with a grin, but Judy gets a chance to investigate a serious case – the disappearance of a resident of the city. She takes on him with the fox-swindler Nick – together they not only unravel a complex conspiracy, but also save the bestial civilization. A funny and clever film that destroys harmful gender stereotypes received its well-deserved Oscar in 2017.

The events of the film take place in a very unusual place – in the head of 11-year-old girl Riley! The heroes of this world are Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, Disgust. All five emotions quarrel with each other, but try to find a common language, otherwise the girl will not be able to cope with her problems. Her family has just moved from Minnesota to San Francisco, and Riley’s familiar world is crumbling … The painting has collected a whole collection of awards, including an Oscar -2016.

This cartoon was released by Disney in 2014 based on the famous Marvel comics. The young prodigy Hiro Tamado raves about fighting robots. From his older brother, he gets Baymax. Also a robot, but with the ability to heal people. Hiro decides to teach him how to fight in order to save him from the enemy threatening the city. A touching family picture, which at the same time raises serious topics of relationships between people. The Oscar-winning cartoon is available on ivi by subscription.

Another animated film by Walt Disney Pictures, which received two Oscars: for best cartoon and for best song. The young Queen Elsa, who has a witchcraft gift, quarreled with her younger sister Anna, went to the mountains and accidentally cast a spell on the entire kingdom. To save the city from eternal winter, Anna embarks on a difficult journey to the ice castle in search of her sister.

The slogan of this cartoon is “Change your destiny”. Princess Merida ran away from home in order not to get married on the day of majority, as her mother, Queen Elinor, wanted. In the forest, the girl meets a witch who persuades her to turn her mother into a bear. The princess first agreed, then, fortunately, changed her mind, but in order to remove the spell, she needs to defeat her pride. The film won an Oscar for Best Picture in 2013.
