Orsalit is an oral rehydration fluid intended for use during dehydration. They are indicated especially during diarrhea and vomiting or in situations where dehydration may occur. Orsalit is intended for both children and adults. Orsalit can be used from 6 months of age.

Orsalit – products

Orsalit is a variety of products that have one purpose, which is to keep the body hydrated during dehydration. These are:

  1. Orsalit – an oral rehydration fluid that is most often chosen by patients. Orsalit fluid has a reduced osmolarity and composition in accordance with the recommendations of the European Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN). Their use is also recommended by WHO and UNICEF. Orsalit perfectly hydrates thanks to the effective mechanism of simultaneous absorption of water, glucose and sodium;
  2. Orsalit for adults is a food for special medical purposes that is used to hydrate the body during diarrhea, vomiting and in situations where there is a risk of dehydration. Orsalit for adults replenishes fluids and minerals, especially during water and electrolyte disturbances. In addition, this product reduces the severity of diarrhea;
  3. Orsalit DRINKOrsalit in the form of ready-to-drink rehydration fluid. It is food for special medical purposes in a practical bottle;
  4. Orsalit fed – it is food for special medical purposes intended for use in times of dehydration. It is a less salty rehydration fluid than other Orsalit products. The composition is enriched with nutritional lactalbumin, which provides essential amino acids valuable for the body.

Orsalit – indications

Orsalit dietary food is a product for special medical purposes. The indication for its administration are the states of dehydration of the body, i.e. diarrhea, vomiting and other conditions in which there is a risk of dehydration. Orsalit is an excellent way to replenish fluids and minerals in times of disturbed water and electrolyte balance.

Orsalit – contraindications

Even if they exist indications for the administration of Orsalit it cannot always be used. Intestinal obstruction or haemodynamic shock are a contraindication to the use of Orsalit.

In addition, hypersensitivity, i.e. allergy to any component of the preparation, is a contraindication to the use of Orsalit. You should also remember not to give Orsalit to people who do not have symptoms or risk of dehydration.

Orsalit is not intended for parenteral use.

Orsalit – preparation

Orsalit can be purchased as a ready-to-drink liquid. However, if we decide to Orsalite powder, it should be properly prepared in advance:

  1. shake the sachet before opening it;
  2. the content should be dissolved in 200 ml of warm and boiled water – its amount is measured using a special measuring cup, which is in the package;
  3. it is very important not to add sugar to the liquid;
  4. before drinking it is worth it dissolved Orsalite cool down.

After dissolving, Orsalit can be drunk through a tube. If the patient suffers from vomiting, the best solution is to administer Orsalit on a small spoon, but more often. Drinking it all may make you vomit.

Ready Orsalit solution should be shaken before opening, and after opening, stored in the refrigerator and used within 48 hours.

Orsalit – dosage

Orsalit should be dosed according to the doctor’s recommendations. It all depends on the degree of dehydration. Most often, 50 to 100 ml of fluid is administered orally for each kg of body weight for the first 4 hours, and an additional 5-10 ml for each kg of body weight after each vomiting or diarrheal stool. Then, similarly, 5-10 ml of Orsalit is given for every kg of body weight after each vomiting or diarrheal stool.

In adults, height daily dose of Orsalit fluid it depends on age, weight and watering phase. All of this contributes to the health effect. However, for children, the dosage is as follows:

  1. slight dehydration – the child is calm and conscious, the eyeballs are properly strained, the child’s eyes are watering, the mouth and tongue are moist and the child feels normal thirst – then the child is given 30-50 ml of Orsalit for each kg of weight;
  2. in other cases, where the child is restless, agitated, the eyes are sunken, the child has no tears, the child drinks a lot and greedily, and the tongue and mouth are dry, give 50 to 100 ml of Orsalit for every kg of body weight.

Orsalit – composition

Orsalit, intended for the preparation of a hydrating solution and replenishing minerals, aims to restore the water and electrolyte balance in the body. The composition of the preparation is composed in such a way as to use the mechanism of active absorption of sodium and glucose together with water molecules. Composition of Orsalit complies with the recommendations of WHO and UNICEF. It contains sodium, potassium and glucose ions, which make the body easier to absorb sodium.

Orsalit – precautions

It should be remembered that some diseases and other health-related circumstances may prevent the use of a given preparation or require a change in the dosage. In the case of Orsalit, it should be remembered that it cannot be used as a substitute for a healthy and varied diet and a healthy lifestyle, which also includes the right amount of water to drink each day. It is a dietary medicinal preparation that should be taken under medical supervision and cannot be the only source of food or fluids.

People who have problems with blood sugar levels should remember that Orsalit contains sugar (glucose). However, people with diabetes can take the preparation as long as they have regular blood glucose tests.

In Orsalit, we will not find milk proteins, lactose and gluten.

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, always consult a physician before taking any medication or dietary supplement. It is important for the woman to clarify any doubts related to the risks and benefits of its use.
