Orofar Max is an over-the-counter medicine that you can get at a pharmacy. It is a preparation used in family medicine and otolaryngology in the case of inflammation of the mouth and throat. Orofar Max can be purchased in packages containing 10, 20 or 30 tablets.
Orofar Max – composition
Orofar Max is a combined drug. The active substance of Orofar Max is lidocaine hydrochloride and cetylpyridinium chloride. The medicine is in the form of lozenges. One Orofar Max tablet contains 2 mg of cetylpyridinium chloride and 1 mg of lidocaine hydrochloride.
In addition, the auxiliary substances of Orofar Max are peppermint oil, levomenthol, Schimmel peppermint oil, corn starch, potassium acesulfame, citric acid monohydrate, macrogol 6000, microcrystalline cellulose, sorbitol, magnesium stearate.
Orofar Max – action
Orofar Max is a medicine in the form of lozenges. You can get it at a pharmacy without a prescription. The composition of Orofar Max includes two active substances. As a combination drug it contains:
- lidocaine – has an anesthetic effect and inhibits the formation and conduction of nerve impulses, the substance works quickly;
- cetylpyridine – it is a quaternary ammonium compound with disinfecting, antifungal and antibacterial properties. It is recommended in the treatment of inflammation of the oral mucosa, throat and gums.

Orofar Max – indications
The indication for the use of Orofar Max is:
- treatment of inflammation of the mouth and throat;
- pain relief in inflammation of the mouth.
Orofar Max can be used by adults and children over six years of age.
Orofar Max – contraindications
Even if they exist indications for the administration of Orofar Max it cannot always be used. The main contraindication to the use of the drug is hypersensitivity, i.e. allergy to any component of the drug.
In addition, remember not to use the drug in children under 6 years of age, and not to use the preparation during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Orofar Max – dosage
Orofar Max should be used according to the recommendations contained in the package leaflet. You should not increase the indicated dose yourself, as this will not increase the effectiveness of the drug, and may adversely affect your health and increase the risk of side effects.
In the case of adults and children over 12 years of age, it is recommended to use the preparation every 1-3 hours, however, the frequency of using Orofar Max is mainly influenced by the degree of pain intensity. At the same time, remember not to take more than 6 tablets during the day:
- acute inflammation requires 1 lozenge every 1-2 hours;
- mild inflammation requires 1 lozenge every 2-3 hours.
Orofar Max dosage for children looks a little different. Children between 6 and 12 years of age can take one tablet every 3-4 hours. In addition, remember not to exceed the daily dose of a maximum of 3 tablets a day.
The medicine is in the form of lozenges, therefore they should not be crushed or chewed. Consult a doctor if side effects occur.
When starting Orofar Max, it should also be remembered that the preparation is intended for short-term use and should not be used for a period longer than 5 days.
Remember that the use of higher doses of Orofar Max than indicated will not increase the effectiveness of the drug, and may only lead to the appearance of side effects.
Orofar Max – side effects
Each drug, including Orofar Max, can lead to the appearance of side effects. However, it should be remembered that the negative side effects of Orofar Max will not occur to everyone and they do not happen often.
In addition, most often the benefits associated with the use of the drug are greater than the possible risk of side effects.
Most often, after administering Orofar Max, the following appear:
- nausea;
- vomiting;
- mouth and throat irritation;
- allergic reactions, such as a rash on the body.

Orofar Max – precautions
When using Orofar Max, remember that:
- if, after 5 days of using Orofar Max, the sore throat or fever does not subside or if a high fever, dizziness or vomiting occurs while using the drug, consult a doctor or pharmacist on the use of the drug;
- Orofar Max has an anesthetic effect, therefore periodic and transient swallowing problems may appear during its use, and choking may also occur;
- Orofar Max should not be used for more than 5 days;
- the drug should be used with caution in the event of lesions of the mouth or wounds;
- Orofar Max contains sorbitol sugar, therefore, in the case of diagnosed intolerance to some sugars, consult a doctor before starting the use of the drug;
- the preparation should be kept out of the sight and reach of children;
- Orofar Max should be stored at a temperature not exceeding 30 degrees in its original packaging.
Orofar Max – interactions
When using Orofar Max, remember not to use lozenges while eating or immediately after. In addition, the lozenges should not be combined with alcohol, as it increases the risk of absorption of cetylpyridinium chloride and the risk of overdose.
Orofar Max – pregnancy and breastfeeding
Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before using Orofar Max.
