Ornamental apple tree Royalty, planting

The “Royalty” apple tree belongs to the ornamental varieties. It is grown in the garden as a decoration for landscaping. It can be planted even in regions with difficult climatic conditions.

Description of the decorative apple “Royalty”

The apple tree grows rather slowly and reaches a maximum 12 m in height only by the age of 6. During the year, it adds 20-40 cm. The tree has an oval crown with a diameter of about 5 m. It looks like a wide shrub.

The “Royalty” apple tree sometimes grows up to 10 m in height

On the branches are elongated, narrowed purple leaves with a shiny surface. If the crown is dense, then green leaves are also present. In autumn, they turn crimson or reddish brown. In early May, during the flowering period, the tree is covered with large dark purple flowers. They have a strong and pleasant scent. The flowering is so abundant that no branches are visible behind them. The apple tree resembles a large ball.

In early September, the tree bears fruit. Small apples with a diameter of no more than 2 cm appear on it. They can be red or purple. The fruits are not recommended to be consumed raw. It is better to make jam or compote from them. The apple tree does not lose its beauty in late autumn, as the fruits stay on the branches for a long time.

It is better to plant an apple tree in a sunny place in fertile soil. You can do this in the shade, but then the leaves and flowers will lose their rich color. Planting is carried out in early autumn or spring. In both cases, you first need to dig a hole so that you can spread the roots of the seedling in it.

Here’s what a spring planting looks like:

  1. Make a drainage layer at the bottom of the pit – fill in rubble or expanded clay. Add nutritious soil, ash, mineral fertilizers and pour in water.
  2. Immediately before planting, immerse the apple tree roots in water for 2 hours.
  3. Place the roots of the seedling in the hole, place a wooden stake and tie the seedling to it.
  4. Cover the hole with fertile soil so that 3 cm of the root collar is above the soil.
  5. Compact the earth and water well.
  6. Mulch the soil with sawdust, bark, or fine gravel. It is better to use colored materials to add extra beauty.

The spring planting is almost the same as the autumn planting. In the fall, you do not need to add fertilizers to the soil, and in the winter you should cover the seedling to protect it from frost.

Grow a decorative apple tree in the garden, take care of it, shape the crown and get aesthetic pleasure from its beauty.
