Original flowerbeds of unusual texture and shape attract attention, give the territory brightness and uniqueness. Making such flower beds with your own hands is not difficult – with a minimum of imagination, you can create a real fragrant oasis from any material at hand.
Flower bed from an old container
Growing flowers in old containers is the easiest and most affordable way to arrange flower beds. Such design ideas have many advantages: you can make flower beds with your own hands from various improvised materials, old and unnecessary household items, they are easy to create and very mobile. These original flower beds can be installed anywhere: in the country house, in the garden, on the balcony, and, if necessary, moved wherever you want.
Container beds are mini-compositions of flowers planted in a variety of containers and shapes not intended for gardening. There are many options for turning improvised material into an original flower design element:
- for arranging a large flower bed, it is possible to use such improvised material: furniture boxes, troughs, basins, old bathtubs, carts – an original reservoir can be equipped from a cast-iron bath in the country;
- a small flower garden can be made from any improvised means: jars, cups, pots, jugs, unnecessary kitchen items;
- hanging flower beds are made from the following improvised materials: wicker baskets, old women’s bags, leaky buckets, watering cans.
The ideas for creating container beds are endless. Making any of them with your own hands is quite simple. It is necessary to place drainage at the bottom of the container, then pour the earth for planting flowers, and that’s it – you can enjoy the mobile garden.

Plywood flower bed
The remains of plywood sheets can be used in an original and useful way in the country. Each person can easily make a plywood flower bed with their own hands – the implementation of such an idea requires minimal effort and time. The two most interesting design options for flower beds are described below.
Flowerbed-umbrella
Of course, a real umbrella can also be used for a flower garden, but it will be more durable if made of plywood material, and besides, it can be painted in different colors. To make a flower garden, you will need a few improvised means:
- 9 thin wooden blocks as knitting needles;
- 10 plywood triangles the same height as the spokes;
- 1 long bar for an umbrella handle;
- nails, screws.
Next, the umbrella is assembled by connecting triangles and “spokes” with nails or self-tapping screws. They install the finished structure with the sharp end down, slightly deepening into the ground (if desired, the flower garden can be tilted slightly), and fixed for stability. Drainage is laid at the bottom, soil is poured, and flowers are planted.
Flowerbed-palette
The implementation of this idea with your own hands is not as difficult as it seems at first glance. To make a flower garden you need:
- a sheet of not very thin plywood;
- several bars as legs;
- manual cutter;
- varnish or paint.
First you need to decide on the size of the palette, and then draw a blank on the plywood. Then, using a cutter, cut out 8 holes: the central one for brushes, and 7 in a circle for paints (as in a real palette). Set the flower bed on stands – legs or bricks, varnish. Insert pots with bright flowers into the holes.
How to make a wooden flower bed
Flowerbeds made of wood in the country or in the backyard are the embodiment of the style and good taste of the owners. Wooden flower beds are very popular due to their environmental friendliness, the rich texture of natural wood and a variety of design options. In addition, none of the materials can create such a unique warm atmosphere in the garden as natural wood.
It will not be difficult to create original flower beds made of wood with your own hands. A wooden flower bed, as a rule, is an unusual flower fence made of natural wood. For the manufacture of such a flower garden, you can use the remains of any wood: rods, beams, pegs, boards, logs. Ideas for creating wooden flower beds are diverse:
- Mini fence. This is a fence made of vertical planks attached to horizontal bars. For a flower garden in the country, such a miniature fence can be made from boards of different lengths and shapes – this will add originality to the flower bed.
- Palisade. This is a low fence made of pegs, tightly packed into the ground. Thin stakes can be fastened with a cross bar.
- Wattle. This is the most original type of hedge, made from long flexible tree branches. The wattle fence can be of any size and shape – it all depends on the location and wishes of the owners. Wattle is an integral element of landscape design and a fairly functional fence. With it, you can not only mark the boundaries of the flower bed, but also decorate an unattractive area in the country, fence off a recreation area. It should be noted that the implementation of such an idea with your own hands requires certain skills and time.
- A fence made of wooden logs (small logs). To make this fence, you must first saw the logs into small pieces as long as the height of the fence, given that about 20 cm will go into the ground. Then you need to determine the boundaries of the future flower bed and remove the sod in this place (a shallow groove should form). Next, on the fresh soil, you need to tightly install the logs, sprinkle the lower part with earth and tamp well.
These are the basic and easiest to manufacture types of fences for wooden flower beds. Based on them, you can develop various ideas and variations, for example, you can weave a flower bed in the form of a basket from rods, make a mini-front garden in the form of a well, a hut from bars.
Interesting options from car parts
A flower bed from a car is one of the most original and creative ideas for creating landscape design in the country. Of course, you can create such a flower bed with your own hands only if you have an old, long-unused vehicle.
First you need to decide on a place for the location of the flower bed. In the center of a green lawn (lawn), a flower car will create a bright accent and be clearly visible. Next, you need to remove all the insides from the car: the engine, seats and other parts. Then you need to decide where the flowers will be planted, and fill the soil in these places. Before filling the car with earth, lay a layer of expanded clay, cobblestones, or other improvised means on the bottom, cover everything with a film in which to make small holes – this will help prevent premature decay of the body.
The preparatory stage is over, and you can start decorating. For planting flowers, both the entire car and its individual parts are used. There are several options for the location of plants:
- Under the hood. This option is interesting in that it allows you to create the illusion of a mobile flower bed – it seems that you can leave by car, taking a real garden with you. If desired, the hood can be removed, or you can leave it as a cover for flowers from rain and the scorching sun.
- In the trunk. In this version, it is better to get rid of the trunk lid. An interesting option is the location of plants in the back of a mini-truck. It will give the impression that he is carrying a flowering garden. Before laying drainage and soil, holes must be made in the bottom of the trunk so that air and moisture circulate freely in the soil.
- When using the entire car under a flower bed, you need to think about reliable fastening of the soil – otherwise this flower masterpiece will quickly spread. Alternatively, climbing plants can be planted on horizontal surfaces. Soon they will grow and braid the whole car.
Of course, these are not all car decorating ideas. If you show a little imagination, you can make some bright accent in the flower bed: paint the car in a color contrasting with the plants, draw original drawings, paint the wheels.
