Original decor: wall applications

Wall applique is a simple and affordable way to transform even the most boring interior. Choosing a wall for creativity and remembering kindergarten skills!

Fly of butterfly

Outside the window, it’s autumn, and I really want the summer to be at least a little late in the living room! As always, accessories, textiles and décor that are appropriate for the seasons help to influence the situation. For example, these are butterflies. They can be “seated” on one of the walls, like on a flower.

Materials: the products are based on polystyrene. Also, for work you will need blue (or matching your color) acrylic paint, white acrylic spray paint, a wide brush, a sharp paper knife, glue (liquid nails), a pen or pencil.

Wall applications

  • Lamp “LAMPAN” (IKEA, Sweden), 149 rubles.
  • Using a pen or pencil, a butterfly is drawn on the foam. Its shape and size can be any – it all depends on your imagination, as well as on the area of the wall chosen for decoration.
  • The drawn butterfly is cut out. There is one caveat here: since the foam is quite fragile and crumbles easily, the knife blade must be sharp enough.
  • The workpiece is carefully removed from the surrounding material. Special care must be taken with the delicate antennae of the butterfly.
  • Using a wide brush, an even layer of bright blue acrylic paint is applied to the front of the butterfly blank. Please note that the foam is very absorbent. In order for the butterfly to acquire a more intense shade, the bright blue acrylic paint will have to be applied in two layers.
  • After some time, the dried workpiece from the spray gun is covered with white acrylic paint. Thanks to this, the texture of the foam appears. Then acrylic varnish is applied to the butterfly.
  • On the back side, the decor is coated with glue (liquid nails). So that the adhesive does not spoil the wall, its excess is immediately removed. Then the decoration is pressed tightly to the surface to be decorated and held for some time so that the glue seizes. The operation is repeated until the wall takes on the final, in your opinion, appearance. The work has been completed.

Cheerful starling

A tree with just blossoming green leaves in a nursery? Why not! Moreover, the care for it is minimal – after all, we have in front of us just a ready-made self-adhesive application. To make the wall decoration more authentic and lively, we will complement it with the silhouettes of a starling and a cat. The figurines are unpretentious and very easy to make. But the birdhouse will add volume to the composition.

Materials: for its manufacture you will need cardboard, polystyrene, black glossy enamel or matte acrylic paint, a sharp thin knife, a wide brush, glue (liquid nails).

  • Wood made of self-adhesive film (“Decorissimo”, Russia), 60 × 40 cm, 1200 rubles. Poof (Fatboy, Netherlands), 9250 RUB., Free & Easy. Floor cushions (La Redoute, France), 1299 rubles / piece.
  • Half of the birdhouse is folded from medium density cardboard, after which black enamel or paint is applied to the front side and ends of the workpiece
  • Since the thickness of the foam (20 mm) corresponds to the thickness of real planed boards, it is used to make the roof slopes of the birdhouse. The slopes are cut with a sharp knife.
  • The resulting roof slopes are coated on both sides with black acrylic paint or alkyd enamel. It is better to apply the composition in two layers. Keep in mind that enamel takes longer to dry than paint and also smells.
  • The finished roof slopes are coated with liquid nails, and then glued to the birdhouse. You need to press the parts together tightly, but carefully. The work has been completed.

Familiar silhouette

The hallway area is usually too small and leaves no room for creativity. The applique seems to have been created for just such cases. Why not do in a cramped hallway pseudo hanger made of self-adhesive paper? Complemented with a crochet hook and an umbrella stand, it will become a fully functional piece of furniture. Well, as an addition, such unusual shoe shelves are suitable.

Materials: for work you will need white and black self-adhesive paper, scissors, brackets (4 pcs.), white shelves, black acrylic paint, umbrella stand, clothes hook.

  • Shelves (IKEA), 250 rubles / piece, umbrella stand (IKEA), 400 rubles.
  • Having previously completed a pencil sketch, a rectangle is drawn on the wall using black acrylic paint and a wide brush.
  • After the painted area is dry, the brackets, pre-tinted in black, are screwed to the wall. They will serve as fastening elements for the shelves. Silhouettes of hangers and shoes, as well as a bag are cut out of self-adhesive paper. Products are glued to the wall. Smooth the paper with a soft cloth to avoid bubbles.
  • To make the hanger silhouette turn from a decorative element into a completely practical one, a clothes hook is screwed in its center. A ready-made umbrella stand is placed below. The hallway area has been completed.

Funny pictures

What can set a good mood from the very morning and paint the whole day in joyful tones? Of course, breakfast in a fun company! It will be provided to you by an original panel with laughing faces. Use materials in contrasting colors to highlight.

Materials: decorative polyurethane rosettes, pine slats of different sections, yellow, red and white self-adhesive paper, self-tapping screws, dowels, dark blue acrylic paint, wide brush, pencil, chalk, scissors, glue (liquid nails).

  • The sketch is cut out. In total, you need to complete four circles. You can use multi-colored self-adhesive paper.
  • A circle is drawn on self-adhesive paper with a pencil, the diameter of which coincides with the decorative rosettes.
  • Eyes and mouths are cut out of white self-adhesive paper. They can be of any shape.
  • Using an acrylic compound and a brush, the decorative polyurethane rosette is painted (in two layers) in a dark blue color.
  • Pine slats of different sections are also painted in two layers using the same dark blue acrylic composition.
  • The slats are fixed with self-tapping screws. The caps of the self-tapping screws are covered with dark blue acrylic paint.
  • The required amount of glue is carefully applied to the back of the decorative polyurethane rosette. Then the product is pressed tightly against the wall and held for the time it takes for the composition to set.
  • Faces are glued to the wall. Keep in mind: Self-adhesive paper adheres well to wallpaper, wood and metal, but not to plaster. This should be taken into account when planning the design of the wall.
  • Lampshades (IKEA), 69 rubles / piece. Chair (IKEA), 699 rubles. Basket (IKEA), 199 rubles.
