Orgametril is a drug used to treat various diseases related to the reproductive system. This drug is available on prescription. Women may be advised to use Orgametril in case of problems with menstrual disorders, endometriosis and when treating ovulation disorders. Check what you should know before administering Orgametril.

Orgametril contains linestreol, i.e. synthetic progesterone. The drug is administered orally. Importantly, it is quickly absorbed, and the maximum concentration is reached 2-4 hours after administration.

Orgametril – action

Orgametril contains linestrenol, a synthetic progesterone that works similar to the natural one. It has a strong effect on the uterine mucosa, and when used for a long time, it can inhibit ovulation and menstrual bleeding. Orgametril is taken when a strong progestogenic effect is required.

Orgametril – indications

The indication for the use of the drug Orgametril is, among others:

  1. frequent menstruation;
  2. heavy menstruation and uterine hemorrhage;
  3. some cases of primary and secondary amenorrhea or very scanty menstruation;
  4. endometriosis;
  5. some cases of cancer of the endometrium;
  6. benign breast diseases;
  7. lack of menstruation or ovulation;
  8. painful periods or ovulations;
  9. late menstruation;
  10. adjuvant estrogen therapy.

Orgametril – contraindications

Contraindication to the use of the drug Orgametril is hypersensitivity to the ingredients of the preparation. Orgametril should also not be used during breastfeeding and pregnancy or at least suspicions of pregnancy. It should also not be taken by people with severe liver disease, liver tumors, Rotor and Dubin-Johnson syndrome.

The preparation is also not recommended during bleeding of unknown origin, the emergence of any diseases resulting from the use of sex hormones, such as porphyria and venous thromboembolism.

Orgametril – precautions

Orgametril should be used with caution in patients with cardiovascular diseases, because the drug may increase the risk of disorders and complications. Caution is also advised in patients suffering from severe forms of depression, as hormones may aggravate the patient’s condition.

While taking Orgametril, chloasma may appear in women who struggled with this problem during pregnancy. The preparation may also lead to an increase in LDL-cholesterol and a reduction in HDL cholesterol. Treatment should be discontinued if liver tests are abnormal. The preparation may also pose a risk to women with thromboembolic diseases.

A break in use should also be made in the event of prolonged immobilization as a result of surgery or disease. Do not use the drug in people under 18 years of age.

People who have problems with galactose tolerance should remember that Orgametril contains lactose. Always inform your doctor about any medications you are taking, as they may interact with Orgametril. When using Orgametril for a long time, it is necessary to perform check-ups. The drug may affect the ability to drive and use machines.

Orgametril – side effects

The most common side effects include nervousness, decreased libido, gastrointestinal problems, seborrhea, uterine haemorrhage, weight gain, and decreased glucose tolerance. There may also be hypersensitivity, fluid retention, mood drop, increased libido, headaches and dizziness, and even migraines, deterioration of liver parameters, high sweating, itching, rash, breast tenderness, amenorrhea and chloasma.

Orgametril – dosage

Orgametril is an orally administered drug. The dosage depends on the indication for its use:

  1. frequent menstruation – 1 tablet a day from the 14th to the 25th day of the cycle;
  2. heavy menstruation or uterine hemorrhage – 2 tablets a day for 10 days;
  3. some cases of primary and secondary missed or scanty periods – take estrogen first. At the same time, between the 14th and 25th day of the cycle, take 1 tablet of Orgametril;
  4. endometriosis – 1 or 2 tablets daily for min. 6 months;
  5. some cases of endometrial cancer – from 6 to 10 tablets a day, treatment is long-term;
  6. mild cases of breast diseases – 1 tablet a day from the 14th to the 25th day of the cycle. The treatment lasts min. 3-4 months;
  7. stopping menstruation, ovulation or painful menstruation or ovulation – 1 tablet a day starting from 5 days of the cycle at the latest. Treatment lasts for several months;
  8. missed menstruation – 1 tablet a day, preferably 2 weeks before the expected period;
  9. supplementary treatment with estrogen therapy in the peri and postmenopausal period (in order to prevent the growth of the uterine mucosa) – 1 tablet daily for 12-15 days a month.
