Phalaenopsis orchid is considered the most whimsical species. The fact is that in its natural environment it grows in a humid and warm climate. It is difficult to create such conditions in an apartment, therefore, hybrid varieties of phalaenopsis are grown as a houseplant.
A brief description of the famous phalaenopsis:
- Schiller is a plant with a well-developed rosette of leaves, the flowers are large, their colors are varied. Flowering lasts only a few months, but repeats several times a year.
- Amabilis – the plant produces long, winding peduncles. The flowers are large, on one peduncle there are from 15 to 20 pieces. The color is snow-white, the lower petals are yellow or pink. The orchid has a pleasant scent.
- Luddemana – flowering occurs in winter, lasts until spring. Peduncles are small, contain up to 7 flowers. The buds open in turn, the color of the petals is white and yellow. The aroma is strong during flowering.
- Sandera is a rare and expensive flower. Peduncles are high, oblique. Up to 50 buds bloom on each peduncle. Flowers are medium in size.
All hybrids are thermophilic plants. They create comfortable conditions for growth. The temperature is maintained at 22-25 ° С, the difference between daytime and nighttime readings should not exceed a few degrees. Flowering occurs at a temperature of 5-10 ° C.
Cattleya orchid: name of varieties and varieties
Cattleya is a bush orchid that every year gives young shoots next to old ones, grows in width. The flowering period does not occur in spring or summer, it lasts a month.
More than 40 hybrids have been bred, which are grown in room conditions:
- Two-color cattleya – the upper petals are pink, red or purple, the lip is purple. The flowers are small, up to 10 mm in diameter.
- Bowring – plant height reaches 35 cm. The petals are purple, the lip is crimson with a yellow spot.
- Triana – orchid petals are painted white, the lip is crimson or purple.
All Cattleya are pretty capricious plants. In winter, when they have a dormant period, they require bright lighting, it is often necessary to supplement the plant with phytolamps. They do not tolerate drafts and cold air, the optimum room temperature is 16-18 ° C.
