Orange juice anti-cancer properties

Orange juice supports the prevention and treatment of many forms of cancer, but in excessive amounts it can be toxic – the results of an analysis of the available studies are presented in the Nutrition and Cancer magazine.

Due to the content of antioxidant flavonoids (e.g. hesperidin or naringenin), orange juice has a positive effect on the treatment of cancer. Citrus drink has antibacterial and antiviral properties and supports the absorption of drugs. It also induces antimutagenic, antigenotoxic and cytoprotective effects.

Drinking orange juice has been shown to reduce the risk of leukemia in children and has a chemopreventive effect on breast, liver and colon cancer.

Orange juice has been linked to early-stage chemoprevention, researchers say.

However, researchers point out that consuming too much orange juice can be detrimental to your health and cause hyperkalemia (elevated levels of potassium in the blood). Children, people with hypertension, diabetes and impaired kidney function are particularly exposed to the harmful effects of the juice. (PAP)
