Opportunities for Inclusive Education for Children with Disabilities
Children with disabilities are most often homeschooled. They are cut off from society and learn about the world through the window of an apartment or with the help of a computer, and their friends are virtual, from social networks. New opportunities for inclusive education are called upon to help children to join the life of society.
What is inclusive education, its opportunities
The essence of inclusive education is that the conditions of the learning environment adapt to the needs of the child with disabilities.
This is impossible without support from the state at the legislative and material level. For children, an adapted program is chosen, a method of teaching; a child is not required to be particularly ready to start the educational process, except for general social skills.
The levels of children’s inclusion in the educational process may be different; not everyone enters general education classes at once. Some study in small groups or even individually, and interact with peers outside of the organized learning process in extracurricular activities. There are compensatory education classes for children with health problems and general education classes.
Sick children are required according to their ability. Some children need a tutor, assistant or parent during their studies. He helps the teacher not to be distracted during the lesson, and takes care of the child.
An inclusive environment that is comfortable and soft is a great advantage, because children with disabilities are sensitive to the pressure and competition that exists in the classroom. Healthy children, students with special people, become kinder, they help each other, understand other people’s pain and other people’s problems.
Problems of education of children with disabilities
In an educational institution prepared for inclusive education, the child must be provided with means of technical rehabilitation. Financial assistance from the state is important for inclusive schools. In addition, there are certain requirements for teachers who will work with children.
By law, children with disabilities can study in general education schools. Unfortunately, not all schools can provide inclusive education. There is no material and technical base, trained teachers.
Inclusion provides a vision of individuality in every child, develops his abilities, gives hope for the future. Studying together with healthy peers helps the socialization of children with disabilities; in colleges with inclusive education, they can get a profession.
