Opening a bottle of champagne the right way

Almost everyone can remember the case when a cork that flew out of a bottle of champagne ruined the ceiling, wallpaper or even a chandelier, and the splashes fell on the guests. To prevent such an incident, you need to know how to properly open champagne without splashes and pops. We will consider the easiest way, available even to girls.

1. Cool the drink. The easiest way to open champagne is to first cool it to +6-8°C. To do this, put the bottle in an ice bucket or on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator for several hours. Cooling reduces the amount of carbon dioxide released when the cork is opened.

Champagne should not be refrigerated or frozen, otherwise its taste will deteriorate, and heating will not help. Also pay attention to the expiration date of champagne, unlike other wines, it is not stored for decades.

2. Preparing the bottle. A cold bottle, after entering a warm environment, will become wet due to condensation. For a secure hold, the bottle must be wrapped with a napkin so as to completely cover the label.

When performing this operation, it is very important not to shake the champagne, otherwise the cork will shoot during the uncorking process. Although the shot itself looks very nice, but it says that the champagne is open wrong, and the splashes can stain others.

3. Removing the cork. First you need to remove the foil and wire (muselet), then set the bottle at an angle of 40-45 ° to the table and rest the bottom on a hard surface. The neck of the bottle should not be directed at guests, candles, glass or valuable items (in case the opener loses control of the situation).

While holding the cork with your fingers, begin to rotate the bottle itself, not the cork. Control the gas pressure with your thumb to avoid popping.

Practice shows that it is easier for girls to open champagne if the bottle is in a vertical position, and not at an angle of 40-45 °. For the first time, you should not uncork the bottle in front of the guests, it is better to practice in the kitchen first. If the cork is broken, you can use a wine corkscrew to fix the problem.
