Onion multi-tiered

The tiered bow is categorized as a popular batun. It is also considered perennial, but under some circumstances, the culture is planted anew every year.

In addition to the characteristic leaves, which resemble tubules in shape, the plant received oval-shaped bulbs. The chip of a frequenter of vegetable gardens are shoots that do not form full-fledged flowers. Instead, tiers of small bulbs appear there. Hence the name of the variety.

With the help of ground bulbs, unusual representatives of the flora reproduce. Only underground parts are almost always eaten, as well as young stems, which are great for fresh salads.

Overview

The presented species is sometimes called simply Egyptian. But it is easier for ordinary people to use its official name – a multi-tiered bow, since by name it is immediately clear what is at stake.

Gardeners also call air bulbs among themselves bulbs. From above, they have a strong skin that protects them from negative external influences. In the process of formation, the bush creates real arrows, where the seed centers settle down, located one after another.

Usually the first arrow rarely exceeds 80 cm in length. It is there that the most important bulbs are tied. Over time, several more levels may appear, but more than five floors are usually not the case.

The leaves are juicy with proper watering with fertilizers. If you cut them at the right time, you can achieve long-term preservation of juiciness with useful properties under sustained refrigeration conditions.

But with bulbs it’s more difficult. They are bitter, which is not particularly liked by gourmets who are accustomed to a softer onion analogue.

Cultivation is not difficult, since the presented variety is characterized by increased fertility. As soon as a person cuts off the greens, a new arrow immediately rushes in its place from the center of the inflorescence, quickly overgrown with bulbs. This happens several times, which, with a sufficiently sown area, is really enough for the whole season.

If we compare the maturation period with the “colleagues” in the family, then this option is particularly efficient. Greens will please the owner in March, giving regular harvests until late November. Thanks for this should be a powerful root system, with the help of which the “vitamin set” is looking for food for itself.

Who will suit

Before planting seedlings, you need to deal with the responsibilities that will be assigned to the future harvest. There can be several variations of the development of events:

  • culinary;
  • medical;
  • mixed.

Depending on the chosen goal, the sowing area will vary.

The researchers argue that the most valuable part is the leaves, which have increased phytoncidal activity. Due to this, their use often involves the creation of anti-inflammatory drugs. Some doctors recommend using it to stabilize blood pressure, as well as to treat various abnormalities in the gastrointestinal tract.

Despite the fact that in the territory of the countries of the former USSR this onion variety is not particularly known among ordinary gardeners, people experienced in these matters willingly grow the Likova variety and the Chelyabinsk Super Early for personal needs (not for sale).

Health benefits of these early greens include:

  • Sahara;
  • proteins;
  • carotene;
  • vitamins of group B, C;
  • essential oil;
  • PP.

If we compare a species that is not particularly in demand with the onion “brother”, then it has overtaken it twice in terms of the content of ascorbic acid. Even the closest relative, the batun, turned out to be overboard in terms of nutritional value against the background of a more successful “colleague”.

The preparation made in the fall will allow all winter to delight thrifty eaters with energy replenishment with the prevention of diseases caused by the attack of harmful bacteria.

What does traditional medicine say

Regardless of how many people have already managed to use the recipes of “grandmothers” with the involvement of a multi-tiered savior, you first need to undergo a clinical examination. Consultation with your doctor will allow you to identify possible contraindications for starting such therapy, which will save you from possible negative consequences.

If the tests do not reveal anything suspicious, then properly made tinctures will help improve intestinal motility. Some herbalists even use them to remove worms. And for people suffering from atherosclerosis and inflammatory processes in the gums, such a remedy will generally seem like a real salvation.

But most often, those who are forced to fight against respiratory diseases resort to his help. For the treatment of SARS, it is best to take fresh onion juice. It is enough to drink 100 ml twice a day until the end of the course of treatment.

The supplement will be no less useful if the patient suffers from beriberi. To get rid of its typical signs, all you need is:

  • 100 g onions;
  • 30 ml of olive oil.

The base is filled with oil. It is worth taking three times a day for 50 g.

Another effective recipe provides for getting rid of the common cold. To do this, the underground bulb is cut in half, inhaling the essential oil for about three minutes. It shouldn’t take too long to do this. The duration of the course of treatment should be varied depending on how the patient feels at the moment. You should not be zealous with the method, as this can harm the nasal mucosa.

Landing technology

Having dealt with useful qualities, many gardeners light up with the idea of getting a multifunctional plant on their backyard. And although its planting and care is subject to everyone, you need to know a few secrets to successfully get a big harvest.

Not only ground seed “houses” can act as a planting draft. Some use underground parts. But if you want to do everything according to the rules, then it is better to use bulbs for breeding “offspring”, which are located on the first or second floor.

The best time for landing is the period from August to early autumn. Compliance with the time frame allows the rhizome to take root tightly before the onset of cold weather. And after the first snow has melted, the bush will delight you with appetizing early greens.

If the territory does not allow for a full-fledged planting on the ground, it is better to use greenhouse conditions for harvesting, or to breed an additive to salads at home.

To achieve optimal results, you need to store dug “semi-finished products” in a cool place somewhere from October to February. And at the end of the trial period, the seedlings are rearranged in boxes to a depth of a couple of centimeters. This will allow you to eat greens directly “from the balcony” in a particularly difficult period for the body.

If the experimenters have a dacha or a plot of land, then ordinary light soil will fit for planting, which will easily pass not only moisture, but also air. It is also important to avoid acidic soil, otherwise all the work will go down the drain.

In the end, it remains only to fertilize the soil at the rate of:

  • 20 g of nitrogen fertilizers;
  • 50 g of phosphorus top dressing;
  • 30 g of potassium supplements.

If you plan to use one bush for several years in a row, it must be encouraged with manure before each season at the rate of 5 kg per square meter.

How to save the harvest

The easiest way to store the stems is in the freezer compartment of the refrigerator. There, the optimal temperature regime is observed just to maintain the preservation of green nutrients. But before sending stocks to wait for their turn in the freezer, you need to learn how to collect them correctly.

The first harvest must be collected in the last days of July or the first week of August. It is important here to protect the plant from cutting the leaves clean. It is necessary to leave at least five cm to the bulbous neck. Otherwise, the bush will quickly lose its resistance to diseases, begin to wither and give a stingy harvest. At the same time, bulbils are harvested for breeding.

The second time the crop is harvested in the fall. It is customary to leave it for winter interruptions with vitamin supplies.

Previously collected air bulbs are either planted in the fall in the garden, or they wait for the onset of winter to germinate them on the windowsill. Or you can act wisely: divide the collected seed storage into two batches in order to have time to provide yourself with a new harvest at home and in the spring in the country.
