The recovery process can be tiring both for the body and the mind. Operations and treatments require proper conditions for peaceful regeneration. Another issue is getting cancer, a process that, because of the way we are cured by chemotherapy, damages us in a way twice. Neither the period of preparation for surgery and the duration of chemotherapy, nor the recovery after the procedures are among the most pleasant experiences that can happen to a human being, therefore, anything that brings at least a bit of relief during these processes is welcomed with open arms.
ondansetron
It is an antiemetic, especially effective and indicated in oncological therapies. Chemotherapy works throughout the body, not just the part of the body affected by the cancer. It often leads to the release of serotonin in the small intestine and, consequently, to attacks of nausea and vomiting. Ondasetron is a chemical compound whose task is to prevent the production of serotonin in the intestine and inhibit the activity of other receptors responsible for making us sick. It should be noted that it does not affect the course of chemotherapy itself and does not have negative interactions. It also does not affect any aspect of our lives in any other way. It is extremely important from the point of view of ongoing chemotherapy, which itself strongly interferes with all possible fragments of life. It is also often used in the postoperative period, which is also an extremely critical moment when the body slowly begins to recover and gets used to other ways of functioning.
It appears on the pharmaceutical market in various forms and forms, as coated tablets, syrup, oral lyophilisate or injection solution. The most important thing is the presence of ondansetron itself as an active ingredient, not a specific type of product. Therefore, there are many substitutes for the basic drug.
Like all drugs, this one can also lead to side effects. The most common ones, however, are characteristic of most drugs. These include headaches, heat flushes and hiccups. However, if we are sensitive to any ingredient of the drug, we should immediately notify the doctor who prescribed it.
Ondansetron for children
Nausea and vomiting can weaken a child’s already weak body. During the perioperative period or chemotherapy, children are exposed to the same risk as adults. Due to its effectiveness, variety of forms and safety of use, ondansetron is very well suited for use with small patients.
Ondansetron and motion sickness
Despite the particular effectiveness of the drug in the treatment of nausea and vomiting in children, ondansetron serves only as a drug for use in chemotherapy and in the perioperative period. Despite the fact that nausea is quite a common complaint among children, it is important to remember that this drug has a specific effect and will not be effective in every possible case. Therefore, it is absolutely not recommended to use ondansetron as a remedy for motion sickness, as it has completely different causes and the drug turns out to be ineffective.
Ondansetron for animals
Our loved ones also include pets, such as dogs and cats. Just like us, our pets feel, have their own whims, get to know the world and, unfortunately, get sick. They are also affected by demanding surgeries and neoplastic diseases, which is why they are also affected by problems related to the recovery process. Ondansetron is also used in veterinary medicine with the same purpose as in human medicine. It blocks the release of serotonin into the small intestine, which causes nausea and vomiting to subside in other mammals as well. It is most often used in the treatment of osteosarcoma and squamous cell neoplasms, due to the specificity of drugs administered during their treatment. Dogs and cats, however, do not have separate medications for themselves, they are simply given the same things as people (but in doses appropriately selected by a veterinarian).
Ondasterone prices
Depending on the specific product and whether it is on the list of reimbursed drugs, the prices at which ondasterone can be purchased range from about PLN 30 to PLN 50. The level of drug reimbursement is also influenced by the condition of the cancer we suffer from, in line with the logic that the more severe the case, the greater the amount will be refunded and, consequently, we pay less for the drug.
