What kind of apartment do you imagine with a rent of 125 thousand rubles a month? A video posted by a real estate agent from New York crosses out all our ideas about housing for a similar amount. Let’s find out what a “terrible” apartment means to an American.
Realtor from New York showed the most terrible, in his opinion, apartment. Studio located in Manhattan no larger than 10 m2 rented for $1650 per month. This is about 125 thousand in terms of the Russian ruble.
For this money, the tenant is offered to use a mini-fridge and a sink – this is where the possibilities of the “kitchen” end. There is no stove in the apartment, as well as a toilet – the bathroom and shower are shared and located on the floor. As witty commentators advise, you can still go out of need to the nearest coffee shop, where the water closet itself is more spacious than the entire apartment for rent.
More than 2,5 million people have watched videos of the bizarre housing. Commentators compare the apartment to prison cells and resent the tightness. Miniature apartments in Manhattan and other expensive areas of the metropolis are not uncommon, but this place has obviously captured the imagination of Americans.
But our compatriots, as well as many residents of the East, can hardly be surprised by this. Capsule hotels in Tokyo provide an even smaller area – just to sleep, however, crampedness pays off with thoughtfulness and manufacturability.
There are “hotel-type” apartments in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other cities of our vast Motherland. And those who have known the zen of life in communal apartments can only grin when reading the comments of the shocked Americans.
It seems that in all countries this is a matter of priorities – such housing in a metropolis is bought and rented by those who prefer to live in a prestigious area or just closer to work.
However, Buddhist philosophers believe that one of the causes of unhappiness is the constant dissatisfaction with what we have. As an antidote, they suggest learning to be content with little, although without becoming an ascetic.
