On a bicycle without a helmet. What happens to our skull in the event of an accident?

Many of us, as soon as it gets warmer outside, pulls out the bike and sets off. Driving gives us freedom, but sometimes it ends tragically. Not all cyclists wear a helmet. Such people are still a minority on the paths. Why wear it, explains the sports medicine doctor. It also encourages you to reach for those with a chin guard.

  1. If you ride without a helmet, your skull may fracture in the event of an accident, but not only that
  2. A helmet on the head protects against disability and even death
  3. These traditionally worn helmets, unfortunately, will not protect against craniofacial injuries – warns sports orthopedist Krzesimir Sieczych from the Carolina Medical Center

Why in a bicycle helmet?

Only some consider helmets mandatory for a bicycle. Often – after many minutes of persuasion – we will also put them on our child who accompanies us on the trip. And even if we are aware that they increase our safety on the road, we do not always put it on, and if we do, we sometimes loosen the chin strap. These are common mistakes we make. They can cost us health and even life. Sports orthopedist Krzesimir Sieczych from the Carolina Medical Center warns and explains what injuries we may suffer.

– If we drive without a helmet, the skull bone may fracture in the event of an accident. There may be epidural and subdural hematomas, which may result in either partial paralysis or paresis, or even death – said the specialist in an interview with Medonet.

Do you suspect a sprain, fracture? Do you suffer from back pain? Don’t wait. He will make an appointment with an orthopedist available at Medonet Market. Realization possible within 48 hours.

He also noted that traditional helmets also do not protect us against all injuries. It is therefore worth riding in more specialized equipment.

– These traditionally worn helmets, unfortunately, will not protect against craniofacial injuries. They will not protect against breaking the nose, jaw, knocking out or breaking teeth – said Dr. Sieczych. He added that we rarely see people riding with a throat on the jaws. Most often these are people who compete in cycling.
