There are more and more patients at the local emergency departments, both asymptomatic and those with clear symptoms, and those who go there for other reasons, but it turns out that they are sick with coronavirus.
Craig Spencer, who became very popular on Twitter during the pandemic, details what the Omicron infection cases look like depending on the level of vaccination.
Omicron in the vaccinated
«Every patient who came to me with COVID-19 after a booster had mild symptoms. It is primarily a sore throat, fatigue, and sometimes muscle pain. No breathing problems or rapid breathing. Altogether a slight ailments, but generally everything is fine »wrote Spencer.
With two doses of the vaccine, the symptoms appear more often.
«Most of the patients I saw after two doses of Pfizer or Moderna still had mild symptoms, but they show up more often than those who took the booster. They were more tired. Fever and cough are more common. Generally, they get sick a bit worse than those after the booster, but still without shortness of breath or difficulty breathing. In most cases they went through it well »explained the doctor.

The third category of patients are those who received a single dose of Johnson & Johnson vaccine but did not receive a booster dose. Their situation is not so good anymore.
«Most of the patients I have dealt with were in worse shape. They felt terrible. A fever of several days, weakness, fatigue. More common coughing and rapid breathing. But none required hospitalization or oxygen support. These cases are not so mild anymore, but not yet life threatening »wrote Spencer.
Omicron in unvaccinated
The last group of patients the doctor writes about are unvaccinated. According to many studies, hospitalization is required 15 times more often for them than for the vaccinated.
«Almost every patient I care for admitted to the hospital for COVID-19 was unvaccinated. Everyone has severe shortness of breath. Saturation dropped in everyone who came to the ward. Everyone needs oxygen to breathe regularly »emphasized Spencer.

The doctor also recalls the recommendations related to protection against COVID-19. Get vaccinated if you haven’t already. Take a second dose of any vaccine if you have only had one J&J vaccine. And if you qualify, take a booster dose.
«Regardless of your political affiliation, your thoughts on masks or where you live, as the emergency department doctor to whom you entrust your life when you enter my emergency room at 3am, I assure you that you would rather face the coming wave of Omicrons while being vaccinated, ”says Spencer.
