Despite the slow decline in infections, which is currently recorded in our country, there are growing concerns about the further development of the pandemic. The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that the Omikron variant is spreading faster than the Delta variant. The mutation was first discovered in November 2021. Several infections with Omikron have already been confirmed in Poland.

The guest of the “Rozmowa Piaseckiego” program on TVN24 was doctor Konstanty Szułdrzyński, head of the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Therapy at the Ministry of Interior and Administration, member of the Medical Council at the prime minister. — All indications are that we will have another wave, most likely this new Omikron variant — he said.
The doctor added: — There comes a big and not fully known threat to us in the form of a new variant of Omikron, which is much more infectious. If we do not learn to live with these restrictions, we will not learn to respect them and we will not be consistent in this entire policy. — the government in its message, the public in implementing the restrictions, and the services in enforcing them — we’re going to have a very big problem.
“You have to vaccinate and get vaccinated”
The expert emphasized that the new variant spreads much easier than the previous mutations. — Contagious is such that anyone will catch it. Even the one who has been sick so far. You have to get vaccinated. And those who got vaccinated earlier this year should get vaccinated because it increases immunity against the new variant — added.
Dr. Szułdrzyński drew attention to the huge number of deaths caused by COVID-19. — This number could be smaller if there were covid passports — he said and stressed that he is a supporter of universal compulsory vaccination against COVID-19.
Dr. Szułdrzyński also said that out of 100 patients who go to his intensive care unit, 90-95 are unvaccinated. – ŚThe average age of vaccinated people who die is around 78, i.e. the elderly. In contrast, in unvaccinated people who die, this average age is much lower, around 50 years. This indicates that the dying unvaccinated are young people. This is a drama — assessed.
