Olive oil to nourish your hair
Among the natural beauty products, olive oil tops the oldest. Its benefits for the hair have been known for thousands of years. Nourishing and sublimating, it offers the hair fiber everything it needs. To make the most of its power, let’s take a look at how to use it.
The benefits of olive oil for hair
If olive oil already shows its benefits in food, it has just as much to bring to your hair.
Olive oil nourishes the hair fiber
All vegetable oils, by definition rich in fatty acids, nourish the hair. But olive oil includes a long list of vitamins. It is especially very rich in polyphenols. These plant molecules indeed have a great antioxidant power. This makes them as beneficial in the diet as in outpatient care.
Of course, its qualities also depend on its place of production and its extraction. Prefer thus extra virgin olive oil, which contains more polyphenols.
Olive oil also effectively nourishes frizzy hair. These, very dry in nature, require intense care. Olive oil, along with shea butter, is one of the most nourishing natural products for this type of hair.
Olive oil enhances the color
With its high dose of polyphenols and vitamins, olive oil is excellent for colored hair.
Indeed, it preserves their radiance and slows down the fading of coloring. Unlike other types of oils that can cause it to bleed. It also makes it possible to limit the action of UV rays.
Homemade hair care with olive oil
Doing a treatment with olive oil also means having the opportunity to decorate it with other ingredients from the cupboard. Efficient and economical, these recipes can be made regularly, once or twice a week.
Olive oil masks:
With eggs
Eggs have always been an effective natural ingredient for the hair. Very rich in proteins and good fats, it strengthens the hair fiber.
Combine two tablespoons of olive oil and a whole egg with a whisk. Apply to your hair in small amounts and massage well to the scalp. Leave this mask on for at least 20 minutes. Then do your usual shampoo.
With honey
Add 2 teaspoons of honey to 4 teaspoons of olive oil. Mix with a whisk and apply to your hair strand by strand, without putting too much.
Honey will provide additional nutritious care that will help to coat your hair.
If you want to bring lighter shades to your hair, you can add a few drops of lemon juice to it. Avoid this last step, however, if your hair is very dry.
Olive oil bath
If you have dry, damaged hair, you can give it an olive oil bath to bring it back to life. This simply consists of coating your hair with the pure product and leaving it on for at least an hour, or even overnight.
To avoid getting it all over, apply the oil strand by strand. The quantity must allow it to permeate the hair fiber without leaking.
Wrap your hair in a safe towel or in plastic wrap. Then do your usual shampoo.
In any case, these treatments with olive oil, or oils in general, do not grease the hair if you wash it well afterwards. All hair types can benefit, even oily hair. Instead of increasing this sensation, olive oil will on the contrary help regulate the rate of sebum.
Does Olive Oil Help Grow Hair?
It is rather the massage, facilitated by olive oil, which accelerates the growth. Indeed, the scalp massage helps to awaken the blood micro-circulation. Like a domino effect, this micro-circulation nourishes the hair follicle. This can then lead to the creation of the keratin that makes up the hair, and make it grow faster.
However, olive oil will also help nourish the hair at the root. The regrowth will therefore be faster thanks to the massage, and the hair strengthened and more resistant thanks to the olive oil.
But another vegetable oil actually has the potential to help hair growth – and body hair in general, such as beards -: castor oil.
