Even in the days of ancient Greece, fashionistas made masks based on olive oil to treat hair and accelerate their growth. Olive oil contains many vitamins and minerals, as well as substances with emollient properties: oleic acid, palmitic acid and squalene, thanks to which the hair becomes soft, shiny and elastic. Nowadays, most shampoos, conditioners and hair masks contain emollients made by chemical means. But why use chemistry if there are plant products? And although there has been little research done to date on the effect of vegetable oils on hair, practice shows that olive oil is an excellent hair care product: it softens, moisturizes and strengthens hair, making it manageable and shiny.
Hair Mask
If you have never used olive oil for hair care before, start with a small amount – one to two tablespoons will be enough. In the future, the amount of oil depends on your goals. To care for the ends of the hair, just 1 teaspoon of oil is enough. If you have long hair and want to moisturize your entire length, you will need ¼ cup oil. Heat the olive oil a little (warm oil is easier to apply and absorbs better) and comb your hair well. Apply the oil to your hair, massage it into the roots, put on a shower cap, wrap your head in a terry towel and walk for 15 minutes to absorb the oil. If you have dry scalp, massage a little longer. Then rinse your hair with cool water and wash your hair with shampoo. If you have used a large amount of oil, shampoo your hair twice. Hair condition Olive oil cannot damage the hair and is suitable for all hair types. If you liked the mask and you have dry hair, you can moisturize it at least every day. For normal hair, a weekly procedure is enough. Oily hair after the olive mask will be clean longer, as the oil removes dead scalp cells and stabilizes the sebaceous glands. After dyeing or perming, the hair requires special care and additional moisture (however, any restorative procedures should be carried out no earlier than after 72 hours). If you want to use olive oil on bleached hair, apply the oil to a small section of hair first to make sure it doesn’t make your hair look green. Also olive oil perfectly copes with the problem of split ends of hair. Simply apply the oil to the ends of your hair (5 cm), pin your hair up so that the oil does not get on your clothes, leave for 30 minutes, and then wash your hair. Hair treatment Olive oil, like some other vegetable oils, can help get rid of lice and dandruff. If you have these problems, do a regular olive oil mask, use the right comb, and comb your hair well.
