An office in a house or apartment should be no less functional than at work, and no less cozy than other rooms. The task is not the easiest, but solvable. When designing an office, you will have to take into account several key points regarding the location of furniture, you choose the design style yourself.
Furniture for home cabinet
Office design begins with the selection of furniture. In this case, these are working tools and they will be the main ones here. A set of furniture depends on the available space, but a table, a chair and several shelves are a must-have set, without which it is impossible to fully organize a workplace.
Table. Which and where to put
Since few people today can do without a computer in their work, and many work at home via the Internet, most often a computer desk is chosen in the office for work. There are many variations – with or without cabinets, with or without a monitor stand, with a dedicated compartment for the system unit. The shape of the tabletop can also be different – even, angular – in the form of the letter “G”. The specific configuration depends on the type of office equipment: if you work on a laptop or macbook, then the listed amenities are useless, as well as a sliding platform for the keyboard. And its shape is determined by the place where the table will stand.
The location of the table in the office is selected based on several rules. The most popular thing is to set it so that the light from the window falls on the table – today it is irrelevant and even harmful. Sunlight is harmful to modern monitors, and it gives serious glare, and this interferes with work. Therefore, the desktop is positioned so that it is convenient, and the location of the window is unimportant. There is a backlight, table lamps that help create the necessary degree of illumination and direct the light so that there are no glare on the screen.
Psychologists give such advice, put the table so that sitting at it you can see the doors. This makes it possible to work calmly and concentrated, no one will come unnoticed from the back. This reflex, to track what is happening, is laid down at the genetic level. Try to take this into account when planning and see how much calmer you feel.
Chair selection
Choosing a chair or work chair is a whole science. Work at the table is usually many hours and how comfortable and properly selected the chair will be very important. This affects performance and health.
Modern chairs or chairs for work have wheels. For the structure to be stable, the base must be five-beam. Each of the beams ends with wheels that ensure the mobility of the chair. Here, without discrepancies, only five supports give a sufficient degree of stability.
With the rest of the options for choosing a chair in the office, you can proceed from how much time you spend at the table. If not for long, then you can put a simple model. There should be armrests and seat height adjustment, which should have a rounded edge. All other adjustments are optional. In principle, just a comfortable chair can do.
If four or five hours pass at the table, a more complete adjustment to the parameters of your body is required. More serious individual adjustments are needed:
- seat height;
- seat depth and angle of inclination;
- back angle and height.
When choosing a chair, sit in it. The depth is preferably at least 40 cm, and the width is such that you can easily fit on it, without feeling tight. The outer edge of the seat is necessarily rounded and should not press.
In addition to the seat, pay attention to the back. It is important that it fits snugly and completely to the back, repeating its curves. So, the load on the spine will be less. Some models have a movable lumbar cushion, with which you can choose the most comfortable position for you.
But the most important thing is the mechanism for adjusting the seat and backrest. When changing the position of the body, it automatically or manually changes the inclination of the seat and backrest. The force required to change position is also adjustable, so that you do not lean back a little, and you do not end up in a lying position.
A few years ago we began to appear knee chairs. These are chairs for long-term work at the computer, which allow you to change the position to almost vertical.
Their downside is the hefty price tag. The option with a variety of adjustments has a price of $500, cheaper individual buildings have almost no, which is why it is not very easy to get used to sitting on them, as a result, not everyone uses them.
Selection and arrangement of cabinets
Traditionally, the office should have bookcases and shelves. There is no news in this area. Everything is standard. As for the design, you will have to select shelves and cabinets for the table, chair. Everything should obey the general style and depends on which one you have chosen – classic, modern, etc.
If the table is against the wall, it is logical to place shelves on it. If it is located in the middle of the room, bookcases with open or closed shelves are placed behind. This interior is typical for the classic design of the office, it looks respectable and inspires confidence. This arrangement of furniture is preferred by representatives of image professions – lawyers, top managers, who are forced to take part of the work at home.
Representatives of other professions build an office according to their taste. Racks and shelves are arranged so that their contents can be reached without getting up, or at least from a chair on wheels you can drive up some distance.
There are no rules here. Arrange everything so that you are comfortable. Those items that are used often are closer, and which you use from time to time on the upper shelves or further from the table.
Lighting in the office
Light should be enough, but it should not “hit” the eyes. Choose lamps with a soft, warm light that has a yellowish color. It has less effect on the eyes.
Multilevel lighting. Overhead light, and it can also be zoned, several floor lamps or wall lamps, and table lamps.
Color design
The most suitable colors for home office interior design are beige, brown, gray. All of them are dim, but they allow you to focus. This doesn’t mean everything has to be solid, but the dominant colors are.
Brown color – stability and prosperity. Gray – concentration and detachment. Other colors, if present, are only occasionally, slightly refreshing the interior.
An exception is the design of the office of people of creative professions. They will simply die in such stable interiors. They need a different, stimulating environment. In this case, any colors are appropriate.
As you can see, a non-standard approach in everything and this is far from the most extravagant option.
small office
Unfortunately, not everyone can allocate a separate room for an office. More often you have to invent something to allocate a workplace. There are only two exits, to fence off a part in one of the rooms or to equip a balcony. The balcony, of course, should be glazed and well insulated.
On the balcony and loggia
Those who have a balcony or loggia can convert this room. Despite the tightness, you can equip a good mini-study in the apartment.
It is difficult to expect any variety in such a limited space. Small table, chair and shelves above the table. Here, perhaps, is all that can be squeezed in here. There is only one trick, to order a countertop, which is fixed on the walls. The legs are absolutely useless, they take up space.
A little more space if the glazing is insulated and the window block has been removed. The remaining wall can be used as a countertop or a shelving unit can be installed on it.
Actually, the window sill can be removed without problems: it does not carry any load, but the remaining wall cannot be disassembled: the entire facade can collapse. Unless you strengthen the load-bearing wall, but it’s not cheap, and it’s hard to get approval.
Working area in the room
To organize the work area, allocate at least a small space in the room. It could be a living room or a bedroom. In any case, they try to isolate the working area. Do it in the traditional way. First: highlighting a part with a podium or simply the correct design of the floor and ceiling.
Another way is to put a small partition, cabinet or shelving. They do not block the space, but separate part of the room, creating a more relaxed atmosphere. So, sitting at the table, you can not be distracted by what is happening in the room.
Otherwise, the interior of the working area is subject to the same rules: a table, a comfortable chair, storage systems. It is unlikely that you will squeeze anything else into a small corner, but this set is quite enough if you sometimes have to work at home.
