Octenisept is an antiseptic skin disinfectant. Octenisept should be used externally to disinfect the skin, mucous membranes and various types of wounds. The drug is often recommended by dermatologists.

Indications: skin disinfection before procedures, wounds, postoperative sutures, care of the umbilical cord stump
Using Octenisept
Octenisept has several uses – mainly in the fields of dermatology and venereology. It is used in skin care, washing wounds and disinfecting them. It has an antiseptic effect and is used before and after surgery. The preparation is also used for the care of the umbilical cord stump, during gynecological examinations, catheterization and childbirth.
Octenisept – characteristics of the preparation
The active substances of Octenisept are octenidine and phenoxyethanol, which both have bactericidal and fungicidal properties. It starts working immediately after administration of the drug.
Octenisept and contraindications
Contraindications to the use of Octenisept are:
- allergy to naoctenidine dihydrochloride, phenoxyethanol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine,
- injecting or injecting the drug into tissue under pressure (possible tissue damage, local swelling). Adequate drainage from the wound cavity should be provided (e.g. drainage, suction),
- application to the inside of the ear and swallowing,
- use for rinsing the abdominal cavity (insufficient clinical trials).
Octenisept – warnings
- Avoid contact of Octenisept with the eyes.
- Do not use the drug simultaneously with PVP-iodine-based antiseptics (iodine-povidone complex) on adjacent parts of the body, as it may lead to strong brown or even purple discoloration.
- The drug in combination with anionic washing agents or detergents form sparingly soluble residues.
- There is no information on the safety of the preparation during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- There are no studies on the effect of the drug on the ability to drive and use machines.
- Octenisept – side effects
- After rinsing the vagina, you may rarely experience a feeling of warmth or a burning sensation.
- When rinsing the mouth, the bitter taste lasts for about 1 hour due to the effect of the medicine.
