Optical coherence tomography of the fundus is a modern examination that allows for the assessment of the eye. The test is mainly used in the diagnosis of retinal diseases. It is noteworthy that this is a non-invasive test and therefore can replace more complex methods.
OCT of the eye – what is it about
What is OCT examination? Execution OCT of the eye makes it possible to obtain a model of the tissue cross-section. Throughout the procedure, it is somewhat similar to an ultrasound examination. A beam of light is introduced into the organ, reflecting it, informing about the location of individual parts. OCT examination is performed in people who have age-related macular degeneration. The indication is also diabetic maculopathy. On the OCT oka people with macular edema are also referred. They may be of unknown origin. Just then OCT allows you to make a diagnosis.
What is a thorough examination about oka? Before proceeding to OCT of the eye, the patient is given special drops to dilate the pupils. You can then expect deterioration of vision, as well as photophobia. The time required for the pupil to dilate is generally 15 minutes. The patient is then asked to sit down directly in front of the apparatus and place the chin on a special support. The study itself does not take long. Usually it is about a dozen or so minutes. What’s more – it can be repeated many times because it is completely safe. People of all ages can be referred to them.
OCT examination – price
OCT price depends on the city and the facility where we want to perform them. Usually it ranges from PLN 100. It also all depends on whether one or two eyes will be analyzed. Before performing the test, it is worth comparing the price lists of individual clinics. It should be noted that OCT examination is a method that cannot be performed in all ophthalmic offices. It is possible to perform the examination at the National Health Fund. Then the doctor issuing such a recommendation, most often referring the patient to a specific facility.
OCT examination – results
The results we obtain should always be interpreted by a specialist. The result itself is usually quite extensive, so it is impossible to interpret it on your own. There is no point in searching websites in the hope that we will find a special key that will additionally help diagnose ourselves. The examinations directed by specialists should always be performed as soon as possible – unless the doctor himself advises otherwise. The organ of vision is very important and you should never ignore check-ups or any alarming signals that it sends us.
