Accidents happen to all of us, and in case they occur, it is worth knowing the basic techniques of dealing with such a situation. A safe, helpful and often necessary solution is the use of an occlusive dressing. This type of dressing can be used on almost any part of the human body that may experience bleeding wounds – arms, chest, legs, even heels or nails.

Occlusive dressing – how to use it?

When our body is mechanically damaged, especially in the case of contact with a hard foreign body, a wound may develop with varying degrees of bleeding. When should an occlusive dressing be used?

Occlusive dressings are widely used in medicine, among others, they are standard equipment of ambulance and first aid workers. They are used for various types of wounds, including open, bleeding, life-threatening, entry wounds or exit wounds. They can be used on clean wounds as well as those covered with dirt, hair, clotted blood or other materials. Dressing They are especially intended for wounds with mild or moderate bleeding, or non-bleeding wounds.

They are particularly commonly used in the treatment of open chest wounds that may result in the development of pneumothorax. An emphysema is a dangerous situation where air – for example from the lungs – comes out of the lungs and fills other parts of the body, most often the surrounding tissues. Application occlusive dressing is the right solution thanks to their tight fit to the skin. Additionally, some of the dressings are manufactured specifically for these types of injuries and are equipped with one-way valves that allow unnecessary air to escape from the chest. In this way occlusive dressing it can both accelerate the healing of a chest wound and counteract complications resulting from their occurrence.
