San Francisco (California, US West Coast) councilors passed a bill requiring cell phone manufacturers to warn users that they are exposed to radiation emitted by cameras, AFP said.
The bill will likely be signed by San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom, and if that happens, it will be the US’s first radiation warning law for cell phones.
San Francisco councilors want manufacturers to inform potential customers about the amount of radiation to which users of particular phone models are exposed.
Scientific research into whether such radiation can cause cancer or is otherwise harmful to health has not led to any specific findings so far, writes AFP. (PAP)
