Objectification of man in the modern world

Hello dear blog readers! Objectivization is, in simple terms, the “objectification” of a person.

That is, when its true characteristics and preferences are not taken into account, but endowed with those that are considered more acceptable and convenient, beneficial. This definition applies to both the stronger sex and the beautiful half of humanity.

Some general information

The most common is sexual objectification, or objectification, as it is also called. And, as you might guess, it is more often manifested in relation to the female sex. For example, these are common ideas that all women love with their ears, strong men, that they want to be slim and beautiful. That they like to feel seduced and weak.

Advertising of any goods with sexual overtones, which offends the feelings of girls, is widely used. Especially feminists who fight for their rights. And they believe that the majority perceives the female sex only as a tool to achieve pleasure.

And in general, more than 60% of advertising consists of photos of half-naked, or just a model appearance of girls in seductive poses. Although in fact, about 75% of buyers of any kind of goods are women. According to the logic, naked men should be used in advertising as a guide to the target audience. Paradox.

This phenomenon is closely intertwined with victim blaming, when the victim is accused of being abused. Let’s say she put on a too short skirt, so it’s not surprising that she was a victim of rape. Yes, and in this form returned home in the dark. You are the one to blame.

Objectification of man in the modern world

How is it manifested?

You may be surprised, but we are faced with objectification every day in everyday life. And not only thanks to billboards and commercials.

For example, when we purchase any product in a store, do we consider the cashier as a person with a rich inner world, dreams and accumulated experience? It is unlikely that for us it is rather a tool to achieve our goals, in particular, the acquisition, for example, of bread and milk.

So, if she punches through the goods so slowly, like a sloth from the cartoon «Zootopia», what will you feel first? Anger that you have to wait and waste your personal time? Or maybe sympathy for the employee because she is tired or just distracted by thoughts of the problems that have piled on her?

And when we see a fairly attractive person of the opposite sex in a movie, on the cover of a magazine, and so on, the first thing we think about is what her priorities, goals and main character traits are? It is quite normal to experience arousal or imagine him or her in erotic fantasies, especially if some fairly intimate parts of the body were exposed.

It’s not normal to allow yourself to yell at the saleswoman, expecting her to meekly obey, because in fact, who is she? Only the cashier, respectively, is obliged to listen to the claims of customers. Whether they are justified or not is not taken into account. And how she feels about it.

It is also not normal to approach a stranger, but you like a person and grab his ass. Absolutely not caring about whether he likes it or not.

This is what objectification is all about.
