Oatmeal face mask

An oatmeal face mask, if prepared correctly, can become your skin’s favorite meal. However, this article is dedicated not only to lovers of folk beauty art, but also to those who are interested in what Healthy-Food considers the best face masks.

Oatmeal for the face: what is the benefit

There is probably no herbal product that has not been tried on the face to see what happens. Judging by the fact that oatmeal mask recipes are widespread, this product has successfully passed the test of time – a lot of people really use oatmeal for the face.

What is the reason for success? First of all, oatmeal itself is a neutral and safe product for external use: it does not cause discomfort and negative reactions from the skin. And this is already a lot for an ingredient in home cosmetics. Moreover, oatmeal for the face is useful, being a source of elements such as:

  • B vitamins (including biotin and nicotinic acid);

  • vitamin E;

  • trace elements: manganese, sodium, potassium, phosphorus, iron, calcium (ensure the correct flow of many biochemical processes in the skin).

Oatmeal masks are one of the most popular folk recipes.

The mechanism of action of the oatmeal mask on the skin of the face

Due to the rich composition, the oatmeal mask has a versatile positive effect on the skin of the face:

  • softens;

  • fights dryness;

  • helps to restore the skin barrier;

  • has absorbent and cleansing properties without the effect of overdrying;

  • improves elasticity.

Plus, the oatmeal mask feels comfortable on the skin.

Homemade oatmeal face mask or ready-made?

According to Healthy-Food, store-bought products based on oatmeal or flour are not common. But in the home beauty kitchen, oatmeal face masks are used with pleasure. However, is it worth using grandmother’s recipes in the presence of a huge number of a wide variety of masks from the manufacturer?

Composition

The composition of a homemade oatmeal face mask is simple and straightforward: what you put in is applied to the skin. But whether you will achieve a noticeable result is a big question. Not all valuable active ingredients, and even in the required concentration, are available for the home laboratory.

Efficiency

Enriching a homemade oatmeal face mask with additional ingredients is a gamble, but a risky one. Who has tested the food in your fridge or pantry for safety and effectiveness? You will have to experience them “on your own skin.”

Ease of use

Homemade oatmeal masks are not the most convenient to use – rather large flakes tend to fall off and stain clothes. You’ll have to experiment to achieve the perfect consistency. Also, while rinsing, an oatmeal face mask can easily clog the sink drain. Why do you need the extra hassle of clearing the blockage? Naturally, purchased masks do not have such problems: texture, ease of application, ease of rinsing, aroma, consistency – everything is thought out.

The oatmeal mask recipe is similar to the oatmeal recipe.

How to use oatmeal face mask

The rules for using oatmeal for the face in the form of a mask are standard:

  • an oatmeal mask is applied to clean facial skin with clean hands or a brush;

  • before using the mask, you can steam your face;

  • when applying the mask, avoid the area around the eyes and lips;

  • keep the mixture on the skin for 15-20 minutes;

  • rinse with clean water or herbal decoction.

Before applying, check the temperature of the oatmeal mask so as not to burn yourself.

How to make an oatmeal face mask: recipes

Oatmeal face mask is easy to make at home. The main thing is to know the proportions.

The basic recipe is as follows: cereals are poured with hot liquid (water, milk, cream, tea, herbal decoction) in a ratio of 1: 2 / 2,5. You need to wait until the “porridge” is brewed, and the flakes soften and swell. You can pre-grind them in a coffee grinder.

You are free to enrich the basic composition of the hercules face mask with a wide variety of additives, depending on the condition and needs of the skin.

  • For oily problem skin

    Suitable acidic supplements for peeling effect and skin lightening (berry or lemon juice). Sour-milk products (kefir or yogurt) normalize the acid-base balance, reduce greasy shine, slightly exfoliate.

  • Dry flaky skin

    Fatty nutritional supplements are good: olive oil, avocado pulp, cream or sour cream, egg yolk.

  • To moisturize and soften the skin

    Enrich the oatmeal mask with aloe gel, honey, banana.

Oatmeal face mask with kefir

Adding a fermented milk product to the Hercules face mask, as well as a light abrasive, will help cleanse oily skin.

Add a tablespoon of kefir and ¼ teaspoon of salt to the basic oatmeal mask recipe, mix well until smooth. Apply to the face from the center to the periphery. Wash off after 5 minutes in circular motions. If the scrub effect is not needed, you can completely do without salt.

Hercules face mask with egg

Egg is a versatile product for homemade masks. For dry or normal skin, the yolk is used, which is extremely rich in fatty acids, for oily skin – a protein that has a drying and narrowing effect on pores. Also, protein masks are used for a tightening effect. Lifting as such does not occur, the mixture creates its illusion when it strongly tightens the skin.

Oatmeal mask can be enriched with egg white.

With yolk

Add a whole egg yolk and a teaspoon of honey to warm (but not hot!) oatmeal “porridge”, mix well and apply the mixture while warm on your face, wash off after 15-20 minutes.

With protein

Beat the egg white until foamy, add the oatmeal and half a teaspoon of lemon juice. Apply the composition on the face, leave until completely dry.

Oatmeal and honey face mask

This deliciously nourishing oatmeal mask will smooth and soften dry, rough skin. Just keep in mind that honey is a potential allergen, be sure to test it on the skin of your wrist (drip a little) before applying it to your face.

Brew oatmeal with hot milk or cream, add a little honey and a teaspoon of olive oil. Mix well. When the mixture is at a comfortable temperature, apply the resulting oatmeal and honey mask to your face. Leave for 20 minutes.

Oatmeal mask with avocado

You will need a tablespoon of softened avocado, which can be mixed:

  • with oatmeal for a scrub mask;

  • with brewed flakes, adding a drop of olive oil, for a nourishing mask that is suitable for dry as well as aging skin.

An excellent format for those who like to do everything with their own hands: the components of the mask (impregnation-concentrate and dry fabric base) are mixed immediately before use, only without fuss in the kitchen and soiled dishes. In 15 minutes, under the cover of the mask, the skin is filled with radiance and freshness.

Nourishing face mask with avocado Avocado Nourishing Hydration Mask, Kiehl’s

The texture, color and consistency of the mask is like a ripe avocado. Formulated with avocado extract and oil, supplemented with Kiehl’s favorite nourishing ingredients: squalane, evening primrose oils, shea butter and cupuaçu. No wonder this mask nourishes, smoothes and softens the skin well. This, of course, is not oatmeal, but it’s worth a try, believe me.

Mask-film “Clean skin active with charcoal”, Garnier

Charcoal is an absorbent that draws impurities out of the pores. And this property, which is very valuable for oily skin, also applies to the black mask, which also contains salicylic acid, which helps to effectively fight black spots. The mask is applied in a thin layer, dries on the face, turning into a film, and then removed – along with impurities and black dots.
