All medical professions are protesting
There are ongoing protests of many professional groups related to health care in Poland. – All employees are ultra-tired. For two reasons. One is the under-financing of the health care system, which means that we have extreme staff shortages and we have to work in several places – said Bartosz Fiałek recently in an interview with Medonet
– This applies to all medical professions, the problem is visible everywhere. Paramedics, nurses, electroradiology technicians, laboratory diagnosticians and physiotherapists are protesting because every industry has a staffing problem – he added.
Now dieticians have joined the group of protesters. Their letter of support was published on Sunday.

Nutritionists: the devastating effects of a lack of financial resources
“Acting on behalf of the Polish Trade Union of Dieticians, we declare our full support for the National Protest of Healthcare Workers,” we read in the letter.
Nutritionists emphasize in it that the postulates presented by the protesters, which are a manifestation of concern for the well-being of patients, are fully justified by them. “The critical condition of the health care system in Poland requires immediate changes” – they emphasize.
- Hospital diet in Polish. Patients get sour bread, spoiled mortadella or lettuce with … jam
“Unfortunately, the earlier protests did not bring about the most important change for everyone, that is, an increase in financing to secure the operation of public health care, which remains one of the lowest among all European Union countries” – they emphasize.
«We, as dietitians who are part of the health care system, are also seeing to a large extent the devastating effects of a lack of financial resources in health care, not only in terms of the amount of salary or the number of employees, but also in the quality of nutrition for patients in hospitals and medical centers»- reads the statement signed by Monika Kroenke, president of the Polish Trade Union of Dieticians, and Aleksandra Piasecka, vice-president of PZZD.
“The choice of our profession is not accidental, we want and can effectively help the sick, but the current system does not allow us to fully use our knowledge and competences, and largely prevents patients and medical centers from using our services” – write dietitians.

– Ladies and gentlemen. Currently, in Poland, the nutritional rate per patient amounts to PLN 10 on average, but it ranges more or less from four to six to eight zlotys per day per patient. Please go to the store and check what can be bought with the money and whether it will be enough for the whole day – said Monika Kroenke at the meeting in White Town 2.0.

– This rate is terribly low and we, as nutritionists, practically cannot work with it so that the patient is properly nourished and leaves the hospital full. We’re not talking overeat. Full. You know yourself that in order for a patient to go out and recover, he must be properly nourished – added Aleksandra Piasecka.
