General principles of nutrition of patients

Nutrition for stomach cancer

When a person wants to avoid recurrence of cancer pathology after a surgical operation, a course of chemotherapy, reduce the symptoms of an organ disease, you need to seriously reconsider your diet.

What should be done about this? The main condition is that food for stomach cancer should not contain carcinogens. You need to follow these rules:

  • Reduce the amount of portions consumed. At the same time, you can eat up to 10 times a day;

  • Monitor food temperature. Do not eat very hot or cold foods. Food is digested well, close in temperature to normal, human;

  • Food should be well chewed, without large pieces. This reduces the load on the stomach and promotes proper absorption of nutrients;

  • Steam or boil food. Fried foods cause irritation of the gastric mucosa;

  • Eat only freshly prepared meals;

  • It is necessary to give up harsh seasonings and spices, although it is useful to eat garlic when eating after a stomach resection for cancer.

  • Increase the amount of exclusively “light” food of plant origin. Vegetables and fruits, fresh or cooked, contain fiber, which contributes to the proper release of the body. Enzymes and vitamins contained in plant foods limit the spread of malignant cells.

  • Nutrition after removal of the stomach for cancer should be with a minimum amount of salt and the composition of fat should not exceed 30%, and the bulk of the fat should come from plant foods;

  • It is especially difficult to organize nutrition for stage 4 stomach cancer with metastases. In such cases, patients often refuse to eat at all.

What to Eat for Stomach Cancer Patients

A person with a diagnosis such as a malignant tumor should know well what he can eat and what he should refuse. Such knowledge will help to create a full-fledged menu that would satisfy the taste needs of the patient and at the same time serve as a means of restoring strength.

The following foods are allowed:

  • Vegetable and milk soups, the components of which must be pureed;

  • Raw and soft-boiled eggs;

  • Low-fat varieties of meat and fish;

  • Low-fat cottage cheese;

  • Well-cooked cereals;

  • Bread made from premium flour, preferably not fresh;

  • Kissels from fruits and berries;

  • Butter;

  • Fats of vegetable origin.

For recovery after stomach surgery or a course of chemotherapy or radiation therapy, patients need to eat as many ripe vegetables, fruits, and berries as possible. It is recommended to give preference to fruits with red and yellow skin, as they contain carotenoids that have an antitumor effect in the human body. Restrain the action of cancer cells substances – anthocyanins, which are rich in beets, red cabbage and eggplant.

In the diet menu after removal of the stomach for cancer, there must be lemons, oranges, tangerines. And in the spring, diversify the menu with early vegetables – radishes, cucumbers, parsley, green onions.

You need to know that even with the heat treatment of vegetables – carrots, beets, peppers, onions, they retain all the useful substances.

Contraindicated products in the treatment of stomach cancer

At any stage of a malignant neoplasm of the chest, products with dyes, flavors and preservatives are undesirable.

Carcinogens linger in fatty and overcooked foods, and rough, salty and hot foods irritate the gastric mucosa.

Coffee, strong tea, carbonated drinks, alcohol should be completely excluded from the menu of a stomach cancer patient.
